Vacancy Announcement

Centre for Peace and Justice Position Title: Project Manager

Reporting Line: Executive Director

Duration: 12 Months (with probable extension) Type of Appointment: Contractual

BACKGROUND:

Centre for Peace and Justice (CPJ) of Brac University is a multi-disciplinary academic institute, which intends to promote global peace and social justice through quality education, research, training and advocacy. CPJ is looking for an experienced and self-motivated Project Manager to coordinate and oversee the implementation of the project title ‘’PEACEBUILDING IN A PANDEMIC: Empowering Women to Promote Peace and Social Cohesion in the Context of COVID-19’’ funded by UN Women according to the below Terms of Reference;

POSITION OVERVIEW AND PROJECT BACKGROUND:

Since 2018, CPJ has been implementing the ‘Empowered Women, Peaceful Communities’ project in Bangladesh, under UN Women’s regional programme. Under the project, CPJ has facilitated the establishment of two Women Peace Cafés at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) and Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU), Mymensingh, as an innovative and pioneering initiative to promote peace and social cohesion through nurturing female student led social entrepreneurship. In 2021, CPJ has undertaken initiatives to establish Peace café at the University of Dhaka and Brac University. The Peace Café envisions empowering young students to promote a just, peaceful, and inclusive society where every human being will be treated with equal dignity and given rights.

The project manager will be responsible for day to day implementation of the project title ’Peace-building in a Pandemic: Empowering Women to Promote Peace and Social Cohesion in the Context of COVID-19’’ as per PMF.

The position will work closely with different teams and units of CPJ and reporting with UN Women, Brac University senior management among others key stakeholders. The project manager will also require to work closely with students, faculty members and management of relevant project partner universities.

SCOPE OF WORK:

Project Design, Implementation and Coordination

• Mapping of project scope and design project initiatives considering the needs of project beneficiaries and stakeholders;

• Liaise closely with project teams, trainers, donors and other stakeholders related to the projects’

implementations;

• Design a feasible yet ambitious initiative that effectively works towards the projects’ goals;

• Developing implementation schedule, budget allocation and their expenditure with CPJ and UN Women Finance team;

• Bear responsibility for all aspects of the project cycle from design through to completion and handover to the respective authorities;

Supervision, Monitoring and Mentoring

• Manage and supervise day-to-day operational aspects of project activities;

• Facilitate the monitoring, evaluation and learning processes achieving project goals and objectives;

• Mentor, manage and coordinate project teams including volunteers, staff and consultants ensuring timely outputs;

Financial Management, Audit and Reporting

• Manage projects’ budgets and auditing in line with appropriate Brac University policies, procedures, and guidelines and relevant donors;

• Ensure donor reports other deliverables for the projects;

Partnership Development and Fund Raising

• Develop cohesive partnerships and collaborations with national and international donors, INGOs and Universities;

• Actively participate in fundraising to scale of the initiative to other public and private universities in Bangladesh and beyond.

• Ensure projects’ progress are properly and regularly communicated with donors, partners, WPC’s management and relevant government agencies and media

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

• Strong knowledge and skills on peace, social cohesion, diversity, plurality, inclusivity, tolerance & non- discrimination, human rights, gender, women empowerment and leadership, civic engagement of youth, social entrepreneurship among others.

• Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines;

• Knowledge of best practices for project implementation;

• Must be a strong communicator, have excellent written, presentation, oral communication and interpersonal skills;

• Must be a creative and strategic thinker with good judgment and ability to make independent decisions in a changing environment;

• Ability to build strong relationships and influence people at all levels;

• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills;

• Ability to work efficiently under pressure with tight deadlines; and

• A willingness to see things through to the end and be results oriented.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Post-graduation social science degree from any reputable and recognised University in Bangladesh and/or abroad;

Experience: Minimum 4-5 years of relevant project management experience.

Specific Requirement: English proficiency for both verbal and written. Relevant digital literary and skills will add value to the work.
