Blood Metabolite Statues of Local Sheep Fed With

Indigofera

sp.

Abstract

Blood metabolite statues represent blood nutrients which will be metabolized by the cell. Low nutrient statues of local sheep fed with sole grass caused low performance. The aim of this experiment was to evaluate blood metabolite statues of growing male local sheep through improvement of ration containing Indigofera sp. Eight local sheep consisted of four UP3-jonggol and four garut growing sheep, were used in this experiment for three months. The rations were pellet concentrate containing 30% of Indigofera sp with 15% crude protein (CP) and 73.80% total digestible nutrient (TDN). The animals were reared in individual cages and given water and feed ad libitum. At the end of the experiment, blood was drained and collected from jugular vein using 5 ml spoit. The blood were analysed for the concentrations of plasma glucose, urea and total cholesterol using diagnostic KIT Merck Dya-Cys following laboratory standard procedure. The design of this experiment using simple T-test, the mean data was compared for all parameters. Result showed that plasma glucose concentration was not significance (77.95 vs 85.89 mg%) among the local sheep, while concentrations of blood urea-N (BUN) and plasma cholesterol in jonggol sheep (73.31 mg% and 77.18 mg%) were significant higher than in garut sheep (55.99 mg% and 58.97 mg%). It was concluded that jonggol sheep have higher plasma cholesterol and BUN compared to the garut sheep which fed by 30% Indigofera sp. in the ration.

Fatty acd composton of Indigofera sp. s low n poly-saturated fatty acdspoly-saturated fatty acds, so t s promsng t s promsng to be used as the best part n the raton for producng good lamb meat. SubsttutonSubsttuton poly-saturated fatty acd wth poly-unsaturated fatty acd could reduce total cho-lesterol concentraton, ncludng the concentraton of LDL-chocho-lesterol (Marsc and Yodce, 1992). et al., 2009). So far, t was reported that the concentratons of serum trglcerde, glucose and total proten of those sheep had only 18,71 mg% , 51,86 mg % and 6,40 mg%, respectvely. Meanwhle Wryawan et al. (2010) reported that jonggol sheep had low performance (40 g/h/d) caused by unbalance nutrtonal status and hgh daly temperature and humdty. There s no study n utlsaton of Indigofera

sp. for local sheep (garut and -jonggol) to mprove poor feedng management; so t s expected that feedng the legume wll mprove metabolte profle and lamb meat qualty.

The am of ths experment was to evaluate blood metabolte statues of grow-ng male local sheep (garut and jogrow-nggol) fed wth pellet raton contangrow-ng 30%(garut and jonggol) fed wth pellet raton contanng 30% In-digofera sp.

Materals and Methods

Eght local sheep conssted of four jonggol and four garut growng sheep

(average body weght, 20 kg), were used n ths experment for three months. The

ratons were pelleted contanng 30% of Indigofera sp. and 70% of concentrate wth total raton contaned 18% crude proten, 15.40% fber, 3.14% Extract Ether, 42.43% starch and 73.80% total dgestble nutrent (TDN). The anmals were reared n ndvdual cages and gven water and feed ad libitum. At the end of the experment, blood was draned and collected from jugular ven usng 5 ml syrnges. Whole blood was separated by centrfugaton the blood at 10.000 x g for 10 mnutes to obtan the serum. The serums were analyzed for the concentratons of glucose, blood urea ntrogen (BUN) and cholesterol usng assay kt DyaSys catalogue number 101592 as standard procedure wth spectrophotometer. The data were compared usng T-test between two local breeds and presented as fgures.

Results showed that serum glucose concentraton was not sgnfcance among two local breeds (jonggol: 77.95 mg% and garut: 85.89 mg%), whle concentratons of serum urea-N and cholesterol n jonggol sheep (73.31 mg% and 77.18 mg%) were sgnfcantly hgher than n garut sheep (55.99 mg% and 58.97 mg%) (P<0.05).

The glucose concentraton of both local sheep fed wth Indigofera sp. showed n good condton compared to the healthy sheep. Rs (1983) reported that the normal glucose concentraton of healthy sheep was 35–60 mg%. These ranges covered for35–60 mg%. These ranges covered for growng sheep (58 mg %), pregnant sheep (47 mg%) and lactatng sheep (59 mg%). The composton of Indigofera sp. raton wth hgh starch (42%) value and rapdly metabolzed may ncrease glucose concentraton n both breeds. In rumnant blood metabolte profle, glucose concentraton s low, but t s very mportant to support nutrent for the bran, nervous systems and actve organs such mammary gland (Rs,1983).

Blood urea ntrogen (BUN) s representng metabolte exes of proten. Jonggol sheep whch are usually reared n grazng pasture wth low qualty of forage has better response to the hgh qualty raton compared to garut sheep (kept n sem ntensve farmng system). The condton caused a compensatory metabolsm whch can mprove the blood metabolte status n a short tme. The evaluaton durng three months observaton showed that the concentraton of BUN n UP3-jonggol growng sheep were hgher than n garut growng sheep.

Cholesterol status of UP3-jonggol growng sheep were hgher than garut growng sheep n the same age fed wth Indigofera sp. and both hgher than other breeds. Cox-Ganser et al. (1994) reported that blood compostons n sheep grazng Brasscas had average value of 68 mg/dl, 20 mg/dl and 64 mg/dl for glucose, BUN and cholesterol, respectvely. Some factors affectng to the cholesterol concentraton were feedng, age, physologcal state, health and breed. Cholesterol s needed for the sterods hormone precursor n growng anmals (Rs, 1983).

Conclusons

Analyss of bochemcal parameters of local sheep fed wth 30% Indigofera

sp. to the blood metabolte profle showed that ther values are n normal physolog-cal status. Jonggol growng sheep has hgher blood urea-N and cholesterol serum concentratons compared to garut growng sheep.
