Play
(LP)
LP
happens when people manipulatethe forms
and functionsof

or
for
people

The
manipulation here meansthat we
take

as

phrase, a sentence,a
part
of
a
word,
a
group
of
MallilWal,
VolumeXII
No 2,Tthun2a13Some aspect
of linguistic
structures is alsoavailable to become the focus
of
LP. Theyare
pronunciation,
writing
sYstem,vocabulary, syllable structure, pitch, speed
of
speech,etc.
We
sometimes bend andbroke the rules
of
the languagein
order to createfun
situation (Kuczaj,
1982; Cook, 2000; Crystal,2001).Further
Cook
mentioned
that
LPincludes
play
with
rhythm
and
sound, repetition, and rhyrning. Therefore the LP
can
be found
in
the form of
poetry,
raP,and
puns (Warner,
20Aq.
Pomerantz&
Bell
(2007) said that besides injokes
andhumor,
LP
can
be
functioned
as
safehouse.
This
one
happenswhen
we
aremaking friends
or
as
a
resistance
incommunity when one group
seems toodominate others.
Belz
(2002)
conducted
an
adult second LP towards English-speaking adultwho
learn Germany. The findings showedthat
LP
occurred
at
phonological,orthographic,
lexical
syntactic,
semantic, and pragmatic levelof
linguistics. Further,the learners were able
to
cleverly combineEnglish
and
German morphemesfor
the purposes of humor and creativity. In a
ethnographic
study
in
TaipeiTaiwan,
dFHffi
(Zhang,2003)
found that words whether they are spoken, written,
ormanifest
themselvesas cultural
artifacts,were
consideredas cultural

3. Types
ofLP
According
to
Cook
(2000) there arethree
categories
of
LP.
TheY
are:
1)linguistic, 2)
semantic, and3)
pragmatic. Jakobson (1960) defined language play as"play
with
the
sounds
(
or
with
lettershape,
though
this
is
less
common)
tocreate
patterns
of
rhyme,
rhYthm,assonance, consonance,
alliteration,
etc,and play
with
the grammatical structure tocreate parallelisms
and
pattern.
While Wamer (2004) discovered three categoriesof
LP,
namely
play
with
the form,
playwith
the contenV or concept, and playwith
the frame. Play
with
theform in
which we used rhymes, puns, repetitions,or
poetry, occurredin
one instance when we rhyrned wordsin
order to compose arap. Playwith
the contenV or the concept
which
includedrole play
and
the
creation
of
fictionalworlds. Play
with
the frame is intentionallymanipulates the meaning of the language.
To simpliff
the
category,the
witer
divides
the
LP
into
three
groups
asfollows:
3.1,. Sound
LP
The terms
of
soundLP
may be standas alliteration (matching
initial),
assonance(matching
vowels),
consonance (matching consonants), onomatopoeia, homophones,double
voicing,
etc.
the
features will
probably stretch, shorten, repeat,
link,
andalter sound.

Language helps
us
to
more
awareof
people
who
use
the
language
in
oursociety. Some people manipulate language
as
a
sowce
of
enjoyment,
either
for
themselves
or for
the
benefits
of
others,simply
just
because
to
make
it
fun(Crystal, 2001).
A
groupof
peoplemight
use
different
languagefrom
other groups,therefore, some people
might
be
familiar
with
a curtain styleof
language, and some peopledon't
(Downes, 2003).Some
other
use language meaningplay
to
showhow
to be
self-depreciatingand
modest,that
is
important
politeness(Liao,
1998). LP is important socially, asit
brings people
into
rapportwith
each other.The
emotion attachment between them, agroup
of
people
bond
by
sharing their
language play makes them closer (Crystal,
2001).
The sigle
"LP" in
this
paper standsfor
Language

A
branch
of
Linguistics.
While
in
Indonesian society,especially
in
law
and orderterm, the
LPwill
refer to Lembaga Pemasyarakatan orprison.
This
LP itself
hasa
ameliorativemeaning rather than
just
a prison orjail,
orpenjara
in
Indonesian.While when
welaunce
LP in
Taiwanese society,it
brings usto
a different explanation.In
Tairvanese society, LP stands for lanpha
which meanmale organ. Therefore
LP
here makes the real meaning more polite.Chosen

LP

By
using to word whose nuance better,it
is hoped that the conditionof

will

influences in
the nation building
(Sheng,2012).
Thisstatement support Pomerantz&Bell (2007)
