ABSTRACT
Language learning has gained a lot of concern in order to acquire new skills in the language area. Nevertheless, not only the language skills but also culture need to be covered in the language teaching learning process. Teacher has an important role in the transfer of the language teaching and many argue the difficulty in bringing culture into their classroom despite its significant role. Crozet & Liddicoat (1993) agreed that teachers have a ‘unique’ role in the cultural transferring process. Again, the process of cultural transfer might not be easy. Thus, this study aims to uncover several problems teachers may face in their attempt when bringing culture into their classroom. Information was gathered through a questionnaire and an interview with ten participants. The result shows that language teachers found it hard to bring culture into their classroom almost in every aspect: time allocation, teachers’ ability in teaching the culture, the textbook used, and the current curriculum. It is indeed difficult for teachers to bring cultural issues into the classroom. However, the problems appear to make teachers aware of the important point in building the intercultural awareness.
