Abstract

National Examination is one type of evaluation test conducted by the government to

improve the quality of education. Realizing the importance of the National Examination, this

study aims to find out what sort of preparation that teachers and schools do to prepare the

students to face the National Examination, particularly in English course. A number of four

English senior high school teachers who we

re in charge of the English National Examination’s

preparation in each school participate in this study. A Descriptive analysis is conducted to

explore the findings. There are nine main categorizations in presenting the data. The

categorizations are: the duration of the preparation, people who involved in the preparation,

things being prepared, the reasons why things were prepared, the medium of instruction, skills

and area being focused, other teaching and learning activities, overall difficulties, and the

preparation so far. The result indicates that teachers play important role in the preparation

process and need to conduct more interesting teaching method to make the students motivated to

face the National Examination. More research needs to be done to find effective technique in the

preparation process.
