ABSTRAC
This study is dealt with the increasing of popular and modern music of Batak Toba growth up, particularly it regarding to the structure of music and the sense of text in existence, thence this study pointing to musical works into popular and legend well known national singer Dakka Hutagalung in Toba Batak people and society since long time till today. This is a case study works by Dakka Hutagalung. In addition, the study also presenting biography of the musician.
This study is qualitative research method with adopting there inter-disciplines theories known to music applicable such as weighted scale model, and analyze it with melody formula, sort of song, and its accord progressive, for the text there is used a semantic theory. In order to interpret deeply more its sense as well as to each rhyme intended worked by Dakka Hutagalung. In this case, there are some songs worked by Dakka Hutagalung, interpreted some songs specifically about the text and the sense of its rhyme.
The objective of this study is to know more about the personally figure of Dakka Hutagalung, to analyze the structure of Batak pop music as the works of Dakka Hutagalung, as well as to analyze the sense in depth of text Batak Pop music created and work of Dakka Hutagalung.
The result of research indicated that exploring the works of Dakka Hutagalung dominantly it is insisted using notes scale of diatonic having own harmony structure and in clearly tones, the sense and songs and text worked by Dakka Hutagalung is wishing to present deeply messages. The theme and songs created mostly comprising of the sense worshipping God, religiously, theme with love granted by parent to child, as well as the affection of child to the parent, theme of loving boy to girl each other, theme of entertainment, and theme of communication.

ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini mengupas pertumbuhan musik Batak Toba populer dan modern, khususnya terkait dengan struktur music dan makna teks. Memperhatikan karya-karya musik yang sedemikian melegenda dan populernya karya Dakka Hutagalung didalam masyarakat Batak Toba sampai dengan saat ini, maka penulis mengangkat karya Dakka Hutagalung sebagai studi kasus. Selain itu tesis ini juga menggangkat sedikit tentang Biografi Dakka Hutagalung.
Guna menjawab hal ini akan digunakan metode kualitatif dengan memanfaatkan teori-teori interdisiplin ilmu antara lain teori weighted scale dengan menganalisis formula melodi, bentuk lagu, dan progresif accord, untuk teks menggunakan teori semantic. Guna mendalami makna yang terkandung di setiap syair lagu yang diciptakan Dakka Hutagalung. Peneliti mengambil beberapa lagu karya dakka hutagalung menjadi bahan bagi peneliti untuk melihat struktur teks dan makna syair.
Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk lebih mengenal sosok Dakka Hutagalung, menganalisis struktur music pop batak karya Dakka Hutagalung, menganalisis makna teks Musik pop batak karya Dakka Hutagalung.
Hasil penelitian ini menemukan bahwa karya Dakka Hutagalung dominana menggunakan tangga nada diatonic yang mempunyai susunan harmoni dan tonalitas yang jelas, makna lagu dan teks karya Dakka Hutagalung adalah untuk menyampaikan pesan. Tema lagu karya Hutagalung terdiri dari tema religi, tema kasih sayang orang tua kepada anak, yema kasih sayang anak kepada orang tua, tema percintaan, tema hiburan, dan tema komunikasi.
