Abstract
The trilogy Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk is chosen because there is an assumption that in the world of ronggeng, paid dancers of singing girl sometimes also available for sex are many social inequality configurations caused by gender. In additions, the analysis has significant relevance and urgency to the existing social realm. It is true, as social phenomena, literary work cannot be separated from the traditions and norms in the society. Furthermore, this study is focusing the gender relations and the social position of Srintil among the characters in the novel. By using the approach of feminist literary criticism, the social position of women as a ronggeng is the minor one. The obedience of women that is shown from the particular social codes and the subordination between women and men is the essence of socio-cultural system that places men as the higher social status position, or often called as patriarchy system. The findings show that Srintil is being oppressed not only by man but also woman as she is always putted as secondary in society. To observe the social position of women, the study will explore Srintil’s experience as a ronggeng.
