Merupakan Teori media politik-ekonomi, yang merupakan sebuah pendekatan yang memusatkan perhatian lebih banyak pada struktur ekonomi daripada muatan (isi) ideologis media. Teori ini mengemukakan kebergantungan ideology pada kekuatan ekonomi dan mengarahkan perhatian penelitian pada analisis empiris terhadap struktur pemilikan dan mekanisme kerja kekuatan pasar media (McQuail, 1987: 63).
