Note: The questions above have been prepared for use with Exam's "matching pair" format. It is the preferred method of formatting matching questions when: 1) matching questions must be numbered separately, 2) each answer is unique, and 3) the quantity of "answers" is identical to the quantity of questions.
Note: Another way of creating "matching" questions is to write a reference that lists all of the matching choices, then to write short answer questions that refer to the reference. This method is illustrated below.
Employing references is especially useful when: 1) matching questions must be numbered separately, and 2) the quantity of "answers" is different than the quantity of questions.

Note: Finally, a group of matching items can be arranged into a single short answer question as illustrated below. The advantage of this format is that an entire section of matching items can be put into one question.
