POTENCY AND DEVELOPMENT
PROGRAM OF BIOENERGY
ESDM for people welfare
Indonesia as an archipelago consist of 17.000 islands (big and small islands). As
an archipelago, many of areas can not reached by national grid; or difficult to
reached by modern energy;
Bioenergy potential (agriculture waste, animal waste, municipal solid waste,
biomass) is available throught Indonesia that prospective to be developed for both
electricity and non electricity to fulfill the people’s energy demand;
Many bioenergy technology has proven.
Most of power plant are fossil based power plants which is release greenhouse
gases emission;
Climate change has been a global issue – the more use of bionergy, the more
emission reduction can be achieved.
The Government of Indonesia commit to reduce the National Greenhouse gases
It’s time to move from fossil energy to renewable energy especially bioenergy;
POTENCY OF BIOENERGY RESOURCES IN INDONESIA
BIOFUELS
• CPO production 21 million ton, another : Jatropha, Kemiri Sunan, & Nyamplung that can be used a
raw material for Bioediesel (where the 2013 target about 30 million ton);
• Molasses 1,5 million ton, cassava, 14 milliom ton, Sorghum, Nipah, Aren, & Sagu that can be use as raw material
for Bioethanol.
BIOGAS
• Potency for biogas in Indonesia was dominated from waste fom cow dung and oraganic materials
• Indonesia has potency of 16,6 million of cow, approximately 28,7 million of goat and sheep, and around 7,7
million of pigs (2011)
• High potenncy of Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME), 50 % from FFB is liquid waste which content 50-70% of of CH4
taht can be use as small biogas digester or Biogas Power Plant.
BIO BRIKET
• Potency of agriculture and plantation waste is big that be used as bio-briket
BIOMASS- ELECTRICITY
• One of the byproduct of Palm Mill is Solid waste such as oil palm shell, fiber and EFB that can be use as fuel for
Biomass Power Plant
• Another Biomass waste that can be use as fuel are: municipial solid waste, baggass, rice husk, sawdust and wood
• Potency of Electricy generated from Biomass waste from Palm mill factory is around 500MW, bagasse 300MW,&

DEVELOPMENT OF BIOFUEL (BIODIESEL & BIOETHANOL) as SUBTITUTE FOR GASOLINE
There are 23 manufacturers of biodiesel and 7 bioethanol producers with commercially licensed
Installed capacity of biodiesel is 4.8 million KL / year and bioethanol installed capacity is 365,000 KL / year.
Utilization of biofuels in the transport sector (7.5% biofuel blend in gasoline , by 2% non-PSO on fuel),
industrial sector (particularly in the mineral and coal mining industries), and the power generation sector
2.
HOUSE HOLD BIOGAS PROGRAM
Implemented through the government budget with energy self-sufficient village program, through private
investment, and a semi-commercial basis through the National Domestic Biogas Programme / Home Biogas
Program. The program is implemented by HIVOS, a Dutch NGO and funded by the Dutch Government.
Status until april 30, 2013, total biogas digesters have been built as many as 8740 units of the total
target of 10,000 units at the end of 2013.
3.
BIOENERGY BASE POWER PLANT PROGRAM
•
Total installed capacity of bioenergy based power plants such as biomass, biogas, municipal solid waste
which is connected to the grid through the month of February 2013 amounted to 75.5 MW
4.
SELF SUFFICIENT ENERGY VILLAGE PROGRAM
•
Use of bioenergy development for the villages especially in remote areas that have not gain energy access.
DME Bioenergy development is intended to allow a village in districts to meet its own energy needs of local
energy sources.

Indonesia is the right place to develop business of bioenergy based
power plant due to the availability of huge of bioenergy potential and
high growth demand of electricity.
Bioenergy is a clean energy, carbon neutral and renewable
Government has issued some regulations to make the bioenergy
business more conducive.
Government will continue to up date or revise the regulations to
attract the investors to come.
It’s time to move from fossil energy to renewable energy particularly
Bioenergy. Indonesia welcome discussion, investment, and research
