Abstract
Maternal Mortality Ratio in Indonesia based on SDKI 2002/ 2003 are 307/ 100.000 life birth. Post partum hemorrhage remains one of the leading causes of maternal death. Early post partum hemorrhage is most often caused by lacerations. Large laceration of the birth canal can lead complications. The risk can be minimized by perineal massage. The study was a quasi experimental with post test only design. The aim of this study was to know about the effectiveness of perineal massage in the second stage of labor toward totality nullipara perineum. The sample size were 32 mothers, 16 as control group and 16 as intervention group. Sample were determined by using purposive sampling. Analysis is done by using independent t-test and chi square t-test. The result of this study, showed that characteristic two groups are equal or homogen. From analysis with = 0,05 there were no significant differences in the number of episiotomies between groups, and were significant difference in proportion of totality perineum after second stage of labor without episiotomy between control grpup and intervention group.
