About the topic/technology
Historic Preservation is the art of caring for the legacy that we have been provided, while identifying and protecting that which will be passed along to suceeding generations. Our "cultural legacy" includes not only buildings, but also monuments, structures and other objects, landscapes, and even neighborhoods. The field is truly multi-disciplinary, encompassing architecture, history, archaeology, urban studies and planning, interior design, and American studies. Preservationists should be generalists familiar with all of these aspects. Anyone concerned about the preservation of their local environment should also know the who, what, where, why and how of historic preservation.
