paper which entitled An Analysis on Hannah’s Character Development through
Her Internal Conflicts in “The House at The Briar Lake” by Roxanne Rustand.
My work is nothing without Your Blessing, because You are the One who makes
every problem during the writing process overcomes well. I also thank to the
head of literatur major who give the permission for this paper. Thanks very much
for my parents, Kamdani and Rinawati, as well as my grandparents Siswo Utomo
and Mukiyem who always pray and give advice for success. My sisters, Luluk
Rachmawati Dewi and Meirika Kirana Dewi, as well as my brother Muhammad

ABSTRACT
Paper which entitled “An Analysis on Hannah’s Character development
through Her Internal Conflicts in The House at The Briar Lake by Roxanne
Rustand” is expected to show the relationship between internal conflicts faced by
Hannah with her characteristics which existed in the novel. Internal conflict leads
to the character development of Hannah. The writer is interested in the
relationship between internal conflict and character development because
something which influences human’s mind is the human’s mind itself, not the
others. Considering the fact, the writer attempts to show the reader about internal
conflicts faced by Hannah. The other, the writer wants to show the characteristics
of Hannah before experiencing internal conflict and her characteristics after
experiencing internal conflict. After solves those two cases, the writer wants to
analyze the influences of internal conflict to the characteristic of ten years old girl.
From the discussion and analysis, the writer finds two internal conflicts that
Hannah faces and some her character development after facing internal conflict.
This analysis indicates that there is a character development inside Hannah after

Makalah yang berjudul “An Analysis on Hannah’s Character Development
through Her Internal Conflicts in The House at The Briar Lake by Roxanne
Rustand”ini ditujukan untuk menunjukkan hubungan antara internal konflik yang dihadapi oleh Hannah dengan karakternya yang terdapat dalam novel. Internal
konflik menyebabkan perubahan karakter Hannah. Penulis tertarik dengan
hubungan antara internal konflik dengan perkembangan karakter karena hal yang
dapat mempengaruhi diri manusia adalah pikiran manusia itu sendiri, bukan orang
lain. Mempertimbangkan hal tersebut, penulis bermaksud menunjukkan kepada
pembaca tentang internal konflik yang dihadapi oleh Hannah. Selain itu, penulis
juga ingin menunjukkan karakter dari Hannah sebelum menghadapi internal
konflik dan karakternya sesudah menghadapi internal konflik. Setelah
menyelesaikan kedua hal tersebut, penulis ingin menganalisa pengaruh internal
konflik pada karakter seorang anak berumur 10 tahun. Dari pembahasan dan
analisa, penulis menemukan dua macam internal konflik yang dihadapi oleh
Hannah. Dari kedua internal konflik tersebut, penulis dapat menemukan konflik
utama yang dihadapi Hannah dan beberapa perkembangan karakternya setelah
menghadapi internal konflik. Analisa ini menunjukkan bahwa ada perubahan
