vi ABSTRACT
Rohmawati, Heni. 31801200422. “The Use of Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) As a Technique in Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension of Recount Texts (A Case on the Tenth Graders of MA Negeri Demak in the Academic Year of 2016/ 2017). A final project, College of Languages and Communication Science Study Program, Sultan Agung of Islamic University. The advisor: Mega Mulianing, M, S.Pd., M.Pd.
This final project was about the use of Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) As a Technique in Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension of Recount Texts. The objective of this study was to find out whether STAD as a technique was effective to be used in improving students of the tenth graders in reading recount text.
In this study, the writer used quasi-experimental research design. The study focused on teaching of English reading especially recount text by using Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) technique. The writer took the tenth grade students of MAN Demak as the population and chose X IPA 4 and X IPS 1 as the sample of the study. The total of the subject was 79 students. In conducting this study, the writer collected data from the results of pre-test and post-test.
The result of this study showed that the mean of the students’ score of the pre-test was 62.31 for the experimental group and 59.0 for the control group. Then, the mean of the students’ score of the post-test were 70.45 for the experimental group and 62.38 for the control group. In addition the result of T-test showed that sig. (2-tailed) was 0.000 (α < 0.05). It meant that there was significant difference in the students’ reading achievement between the experimental group and control group. Thus, it was concluded that Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) technique was effective to improve students’ ability in reading recount text.
