ABSTRACT
Nowadays, media has very important roles in providing information and an idea for many people. In modern times, social media have important roles in human life. Today, social media can reflect human life. One of them is about the thought of female beauty standards. In this thesis, the writer puts an Instagram account, @deteksi_jp, which is one part of the Jawa Pos newspaper as the object of the research. The aim of this study is to know the representation of the beauty myth in photos that appears in Instagram account in @deteksi_jp. This study used a qualitative research method with Beauty Myth theory by Naomi Wolf and Semiotics approach proposed by Roland bathes. This study finds that @deteksi_jp as a media represents women in disciplining her body, constructs the idea of passive and sensitive as the stereotype of women's character, and media represents women as sexual objects for men. As a result, the Instagram account of @deteksi_jp represents the negotiation between beauty myth from western culture and traditional culture. This study then concludes that media today still has the power to create an image of women.
