The English vocabulary mastery of the seventh grade students of MTs. Matoli’uliul Hud gebog Kudus is not satisfying. It is still limited on their ability in knowing the meaning of the English vocabulary. In the curriculum the students senior high school, after graduating they hopefull will have informational literacy with is the students can be access all of the knowledge by their own language that are listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Therefore in teaching English, a teacher should give interesting delivery of teaching English to the students. So, they are interested and they will be relaxed and not assume that English is a difficult subject.

The purpose of this research to find out: The Mastery of Using English Vocabulary in Descriptive Text of The Seventh Grade Students of MTs Matholi’ul Gebog Kudus in Academic year 2009/2010”.

The result of the research shows that: The Mastery of Using English Vocabulary in Descriptive Text of The Seventh Grade Students of MTs Matholi’ul Gebog Kudus in Academic year 2009/2010”. Is categories is good (Mean : 68.8, Median: 72.1, Modus : 68.9 and Standart Deviation ; 8.5)

Based on the result of the research above, it is expected to the English teachers that they should find the interesting method in the process of teaching and learning in order the result can be better.

Ilmu Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris dan Fakultas Keguruan Universitas Muris Kudus. Pembimbing: (1)Dra. Hj. Sri Endang Kusmaryati.M,Pd (II). Diah Kurniati S.Pd, M.Pd.

Penguasaan kosakata bahasa inggris siswa MTs Matholi’ul Huda Gebog Kudus belum memuaskan. Ini masih terbatas. Ini masih terbatas pada kemampuan mereka dalam mengetahui arti kata. Pada kurikulum untuk pelajar SLTP diharapkan dapat mempunyai kepustakaan informasi dengan harapan dapat mengakses semua ilmu pengetahuan dengan menggunakan ilmu pengetahuan dengan menggunakan ketrampilan mereka yaitu kemampuan mendengarkan, membaca, berbicara dan menulis. Sebagai guru haruslah mempunyai kemempuan menyampaikan pelajaran yang menarik kepada siswanya, sehingga mereka akan tertarik dan menghilangkan anggapan bahwa bahasa Inggris adalah pelajaran yang sulit.

Pada penelitian ini penulis mengajukan rumusan masalah yang menyatakan tentang penguasaan kosakata bahasa inggris dalam descriptive text dikelas tujuh MTs. Matholi’ul Huda Gebog Kudus tahun ajaran 2009/2010.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui penguasaan kosakata bahasa inggris dalam descriptive text dikelas tujuh MTs. Matholi’ul Huda Gebog Kudus Tahun Ajaran 2009/2010.

Instrument yang digunakan yaitu metode descriptive. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas tujuh MTs. Matholi’ul Huda Gebog Kudus tahun ajaran 2009/2010. Dari populasi tersebut penulis hanya mengambil dua kelas saja sebagai semple. Pengambilan sampel ini dilakukan dengan cara teknik cluster random sampling. instrument penelitian yang digunakan sebagai penulis adalah test, yaitu cloze test, jumlah soal 30.

Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa menguasaan kosakata bahasa inggris siswa kelas tujuh MTs.Matholi’ul Huda Gebog Kudus Tahun ajaran 2009/2010 termasuk dalam kategori bagus. Mean: 68.8, Median: 68.9 and Standard Deviation :8.5

Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diatas, diharapkan guru bahasa inggris bisa menemukan strategi yang lebih menarik dalam proses belajar dan mengajar bahasa Inggris dengan harapan untuk hasil lebih baik
