1. TRENDS AND ISSUES IN TRANSLATION STUDIES

Given in the third semester of the doctorate program in English studies, this course examines contemporary translation theories and research. Several commonly

recognized differing approaches to translation will be studied. Possible topics offered will be: perspectives on translation, issues and debates in translation studies;

translating; modeling the process, text and discourse, text analysis in translation; translation training and translation quality assessment, and issues in teaching translation in universities. This course also aims to lead students to write a research proposal on translation-related issues and design a translation course. Class activities will include discussion translation-related issues and appraisal on reports of translation research.
