ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini berjudul Citra Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi dan Ekspektasi Mahasiswa (Studi Deskriptif tentang Citra Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi dan Ekspektasi Mahasiswa Ilmu Komunikasi FISIP USU). Tujuan penelitian adalah Untuk mengetahui citra dan ekspektasi mahasiswa terhadap departemen ilmu komunikasi. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah komunikasi , Public Relation, citra perusahaan, dan ekspektasi. Penelitian ini bersifat kuantitatif dan kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Metode ini menggambarkan keadaan subjek atau objek penelitian pada saat sekarang ini berdasarkan fakta-fakta yang tampak atau sebagaimana adanya.. Untuk melihat penilaian citra Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIP USU dipilih komponen penilaian seperti kesan, kepercayaan dan sikap mahasiswa terhadap Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIP USU. Sedangkan untuk melihat penilaian ekspektasi mahasiswa terhadap Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIP USU dipilih komponen penilaian seperti bukti fisik (tangible), andal (reliability), tanggap (responsiveness), jaminan (assurance), dan empati (emphaty). Dalam meneliti citra Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIP USU, penulis mengambil sampel acak sebanyak 3 (tiga) orang mahasiswa Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIP USU yang diolah secara kualitatif menghasilkan citra yang negatif. Untuk meneliti ekspektasi mahasiswa terhadap Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIP USU, penulis mengambil sampel acak sebanyak 47 orang mahasiswa Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIP USU yang diolah secara kuantitatif menghasilkan 58.7 % responden Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIP USU dapat diandalkan dan adanya jaminan untuk membuat Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIP USU menjadi lebih baik lagi sebesar 73.4 % reponden, namun 51.6 % mahasiswa mengatakan Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIP USU mempunyai fasilitas fisik yang belum memadai, belum tanggap sebanyak 59.1 % responden dan belum berempati sebanyak 57.4 % responden.Sampel yang diambil yaitu sebanyak 47 responden yang di dapat dari perhitungan rumus Taro Yamane. Teknik penarikan sampel yang digunakan adalah Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini melalui dua cara yaitu Studi Kepustakaan dan Studi Lapangan. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis tabel tunggal.

This study, entitled The image of the Department of Communication Sciences and Student Expectations (Descriptive Study of Communication and Image Department of Social Communication Science Student Expectations USU). The research objective was to determine the image and expectations of students to the department of communication sciences. The theory used in this study is communication, public relations, corporate image, and expectations. This research is a quantitative and qualitative descriptive method. This method illustrates the state of the subject or object of research at the present time based on the facts that appear or as it is .. To look at the assessment of the Department of Social Communication image selected USU assessment components such as impressions, beliefs and attitudes of students to the Department of Social Communication USU. As for seeing the assessment of students' expectations for the Department of Social Communication USU chosen components such as assessment of physical evidence (tangible), reliable (reliability), responsiveness (responsiveness), assurance (assurance), and empathy (empathy). In examining the image of the Department of Social Communication USU, the authors take a random sample of 3 (three) students from the Department of Social Communication USU processed qualitatively produce a negative image. To investigate the expectations of students to the Department of Social Communication USU, the authors take a random sample of 47 students of the Department of Social Communication USU were analyzed quantitatively produce 58.7% of the respondents of the Department of Social Communication USU reliable and guaranteed to make the Department of Social Communication USU be more preferably by 73.4% of respondents, but 51.6% of the students said that the Ministry of Social Communication Sciences USU had inadequate physical facilities, yet responsive as much as 59.1% of respondents and not empathize as much as 57.4% responden.Sampel taken as many as 47 respondents obtained from Taro Yamane formula calculation. The sampling technique used is Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling. Data collection techniques used in this study in two ways Library Studies and Field Studies. The data analysis technique used is the analysis of a single table.
