Gold production showed negative trend during 2001-2005 with average decrease rate of 0.6% per year that 166 thousand kg gold production in 2001 becale 141 thousand Kg in 2005. Four biggest gold mining companies are Newmont Nusa Tenggara Co, Newmont Minahasa Raya Co, Kelian Equatorial Mining Co and Nusa Halmahera Mineral Co. Along with decreased production, amount of exported gold also decreased. Average export quantity is 97 Kg. Apart from producing and exporting, Indonesia also imports gold from Australia (234 Kg in 2004).
Indonesia had 5,297 ton of potential resource in 2004, therefore, like other mining sectors, gold mining still has a bright future ahead. Moreover, gold is widely used for investment and lifestyle nowadays.
