1. Objectives
This course aims to introduce students to cultural studies approaches to everyday life by: 1. defining culture and its relatioship with everyday life.
2. making meaning, interpreting and critically analyzing the familiar yet intriguing practices of daily life in modern, industrialized society.
2. Course Description
This course covers the theoretical concepts in cultural studies and discussions on the issues of the discipline, particularly the practices of daily life. Students are assigned to read and report chapters from the textbook, do the excercises, as well as present their findings and analysis on subjects of food, fashion, lifestyle and commodities. The final assignment will require them to write a short critical essay on one of the aspect of everyday life in their society.

Assesment will be based on the following components: 1. Class participation & quizzes 20% 2. Chapter report/presentation 20%
3. Mid Term Test 30%
4. Final Paper 30%
Notes on Evaluation:
- 80% attendance is required to be allowed to take Mid term test and submit final paper. - Evaluation on final paper will be based on academic writing criteria as follow:
1. Content (relevance and sound analysis of the topic discussed) 40 points 2. Organization (systematic and orderly presentation of the paper) 20 points 3. Grammar & mechanics (correct use of grammar, capitalization & punctuation) 20 points 4. Style (appropriate citation, use of idioms and vocabulary) 20 points - Any trace of plagiarism will result in a failing grade (E) for the paper and probably for the course. Grading
85-100 = A 75-84 = B 65-74 = C 55-64 = D <54 = E
