ABSTRACT
This research proposes a study that would examine the projected effects of caffeine dependence among batch 2007 UNPAD medical students. Now, the majority of population consuming caffeine throughout the world without truly concerned towards the side effects and the hazard of consumption of caffeine. Caffeine dependency is the physiological addiction to caffeine that results from habitual intake of foods that contain caffeine, most notably coffee.
Until today only few people that realize the importance of avoiding caffeine that might lead to severe side effects and may cause death. This research is done in order to increase the effectiveness of studies before and also to promote the healthy life style without taking a risk by high intake of caffeine in people’s
daily diet.
The study that is used is cross-sectional study and the period of study is 16weeks. Standardized structured questionnaires are developed and all participant selected will be ask to fulfil the questionnaires. The data collected will be categorized and analyzed based on the criteria from DSM-IV-TR of substance abuse.
The result from the research shows that from 87 students that respond to questionnaire, there are 79 students drink coffee. From 79 students, we have 18 students that is dependent to coffee. From the questionnaire based on 12 criteria in DSM-IV-TR questions, 100% from all students have irritability symptoms. If the questions are separated, many of them have headache.
For the conclusion, the dependency to drug caffeine will have more bad side effects. This is because we keep continuing consume drug for our body systems.
