SEPTEMBER 12, 2021
WE HAVE BEEN BUSY
MAKING IMPROVEMENTS AT OUR ST. EDITH PARISH
DURING THE SUMMER.
I want to thank our building and maintenance supervisor, Bob Calleja, our maintenance support, Justin Kohsman, and our Finance Council for making all of these pro- jects happen. The members of the Finance Council are John Brady, Tom Debolski, Greg Laskowsky, Rick Nork, Tom and Judy O’Meara, and Maureen Szczypka. I want to give you an update on the projects.
x The organ project is moving
along and is just about complet- ed. We can use the organ now, but everything is not connected and the facade pipes are not yet in place. This project will cost
$109,375.
x Repairs to the parking lot have been completed. We broke out and replaced sections that were crumbling, resealed and re- striped the lot. We plan to make yearly repairs so that we can avoid a total replacement of the parking lot which would be ex- tremely costly. This project cost
$31,460.
x We are replacing all of the cabi- nets in the kitchen that are falling apart, and installing stainless steel countertops. This project will be completed during the month of September. This pro- ject will cost $24,800.
x The rectory basement has been leaking and now has black mold.
We are having the basement waterproofed. This project will be completed by September.
This project will cost $16,647.
x We replaced one of the roof top HVAC units for the school com- puter lab. This project cost
$10,100.
x We replaced all of the interior doors in the school that were really beat up. SEPA fundrais- ing is covering the cost of the doors. This project cost
$24,785.
x We have new sinks and faucets in the school restrooms. The Knights of Columbus paid for the sinks in the amount of
$800.00 and a grant from the State of Michigan paid for the faucets.
x The gym floor has been stripped and resealed. CYO is paying for this project. This project cost
$13,707.
x You may have noticed that the Church and School sign has not been lit. A new underground electric line is needed. We hope to have this completed before winter. This project will cost
$6,835.
x The trees were removed from the back of the Parish Office building that were hanging over the roof.
This project cost $2,800.
x The shingles on the front portions of the Church are going to be re- placed. We are planning to have this done before the winter. This project will cost $13,580.
Keeping our plant in good repair is extremely important. Due to your generosity, we are able to pay all of the bills! THANK YOU!
Love & Peace,
Fr. Jim

Grandparents Day Blessing
God of our ancestors,
we thank you for our children
and our children's children.
They are reminders from you about how precious life can be.
We humbly ask for wisdom and patience as we take pride and
wonder in our grandchildren.
Those of us who now pray
to you also seek your blessing upon these men and women
who are our grandparents or who act in place
of grandparents.
Bless all the children and their
parents and grandparents
with your abundant grace.
We ask all this
through the intercession of
Saints Joachim and Anne,
Parents of the Virgin Mary and Patron Saints of Grandparents,
in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Kids Against Hunger Meal Packing Event
On Saturday, October 2, St Edith Parish will again partner with the Livonia Community Service Organization (LCSO) Forum to pack 75,000 meals for the Kids Against Hunger organization. About 2/3 of the meals packed will be distributed in and around Livonia via Livonia Cares, with the other 1/3 donated toward world hunger. We weren’t able to hold this event in 2020 due to COVID restrictions; but at the time this article is being written, we are planning to do it this year!
(Masks will be required at this event.)
When: Saturday, October 2, 2021, 9:00 a.m. ~ 11:00 a.m.
Where: St. Edith Parish Hall
220 volunteers are needed. All volunteers must register online at https://serviceclubsmealpackingevent.eventbrite.com. Once the number of volunteers needed is reached, the site will shut down so register early!
This is a great opportunity for individuals and families to help out those in need. It is amazing how quickly 75,000 meals can be packed;
if you haven’t experienced this, I highly suggest you check it out!
If you cannot participate but would like to do something, $26,250 is needed by the group for the food supplies so monetary donations would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to make a donation, in any amount, please send a check made out to Kids Coalition Against Hunger to:
KCAH MPE
37637 Five Mile Road, #262 Livonia, MI 48154
Please Note: “KCAHMPE Donation” in memo line
If you have questions, please call Dina DuBuis at 5863823462 or via email at LCSOForum@gmail.com. Thank you in advance for your help in this most worthwhile event.

GOSPEL OF LIFE
Every Life is Worth Living
From Conception to Natural Death
A Quote From
St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta
"Mother, how can you remain so joyful
surrounded by all
the suffering and aware that so many
are indifferent?"
The question always makes me smile. Jesus is the source of my joy,
not anything in this world. I go to prayer, every day, so He can fill me with His joy.
When I am weary and discour- aged, I go and sit with Jesus.
He invited us to do that.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon
you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
