ABSTRACT
Adolescent overweight and obesity is an important concern for adulthood health. Numerous health consequences of adolescent overweight and obesity exist including risk for cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and persistence of obesity into adulthood.
Case-control study was performed to determinate risk factors associated with adolescent overweight and obesity in Harapan 1 Senior High School, Medan. The Subjects were taken by using simple random sampling. The subject were weighted, measured, and asked to fill up questioner. The data was analyzed using Chi-Square Test.
The result showed significant associated between fast food serving with adolescent overweight and obesity (p-value: < 0,05 ) but the association was not as risk factor (OR: < 1). Whereas, other risk factor such as fast food frequency, fiber intake, physical activity, money pocket, and peer pressure did not associated with adolescent overweight and obesity significantly (p-value: > 0,05). Thus, it can be suggested that health promotion given to the student should concentrate on the quality of food taken among adolescent.
