ABSTRACT

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ENGLISH DIARY FOR TEACHING WRITING OF RECOUNT TEXT TO THE SECOND GRADE STUDENTS OF

SMPMUHAMMADIYAH 1 PURWOKERTO IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2013/2014

This experimental research was done in two weeks with the total number was 51 students. It was 27 students of experimental group and 24 students of control group. Both groups were compared based on the method of teaching. That was conventional teaching method followed by the control group and English diary method followed by the experimental group. The result indicated that experimental group out performed better than the control group in learning writing recount text.

The t-test result from experimental and control group was higher than the value of t-table (4.157 > 1,667), because the level of significance was α = 0,05 and the d.f = 49. It could be concluded that English diary could be effective for teaching writing of recount text to the second grade students of SMPMuhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto in academic year 2013/2014
