Main

responsibilities

The

Office

of

the

Director-General provides direct services

to

the Director-General and coordinates the different central services of the Organization.

Under the authority of the Executive Director, Office of the Director

General {DIR/ODG),

the

Deputy Director

will

assist

and

advise

DIR/ODG,

as

well

as

the

Director-General,

in

carrying

out

their

functions. He/she

will

contribute

to

ensuring

the

necessary coordination between programme

sectors

and

services,

and

the different units in ODG, and will play an instrumental role with regard

to

the

planning, preparation, organization

and

follow-up

of

the Director-General's

meetings,

both

at

Headquarters

and

outside

Headquarters.

He/she

will

assist

DIRIODG,

together

with

the Administrative Unit, ODG,

in

optimizing both

the

human resources and budget of the Office of the Director-General.

The incumbent will also, in particular, be responsible for planning and coordinating,

in

cooperation with

the

Sector

for

External Relations

and

Cooperation

(ERC) and

Afr:ica Department, briefings

for

the Director-General

in

connection

with her

official

visits

to

Member States and ensuring their appropriate follow-up.

ln

addition, he/she

will

be

required

to

analyse

and

follow

specific

files,

preparing

Qualifications

and

experience

.

Advanced university

degree

in

Social

Sciences,

Law

or Administration.

.

At

least 10 years'

experience

in

public administration,

in

the

private sector

or in

an

international, governmental

or

non-governmental organization.

.

Experience in a responsible position within UNESCO, the (Jnited

Nations system,

in a

specialized institution

or

another international organization would be an advantage.

successful candidate

should

be able

Executive

Board

incumbent

will

assist

DIR/ODG

overseeing documents being submitted and alert, advise and prepare him/her on

issues of a particularly sensitive nature as required,

The incumbent will also assist and advise DIR/ODG and the Director-General in matters pertaining to the decentralization policy and to the main programmatic priorities of the Organization.

The

incumbent

will

assist

in

negotiations

with

top-level representatives

of the

United Nations and

its

specialized agencies

and with

representatives

of

governments

and

non-governmental organizations on issues of overall importance to the Organization. Whenever needed, he/she will replace DIR/ODG, in his/her function.

Perfect command

of

English

or

French and good knowledge of

the other

language.

Knowledge

of

another official language of

the Organization (Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Russian) would be
