responsibilities
The
Officeof
the
Director-General provides direct servicesto
the Director-General and coordinates the different central services of the Organization.Under the authority of the Executive Director, Office of the Director
General {DIR/ODG),
the
Deputy Directorwill
assist
and
adviseDIR/ODG,
as
well
as
the
Director-General,in
carryingout
theirfunctions. He/she
will
contribute
to
ensuring
the
necessary coordination between programmesectors
and
services,and
the different units in ODG, and will play an instrumental role with regardto
the
planning, preparation, organizationand
follow-upof
the Director-General'smeetings,
both
at
Headquartersand
outsideHeadquarters.
He/she
will
assist
DIRIODG,together
with
the Administrative Unit, ODG,in
optimizing boththe
human resources and budget of the Office of the Director-General.The incumbent will also, in particular, be responsible for planning and coordinating,
in
cooperation withthe
Sectorfor
External Relationsand
Cooperation(ERC) and
Afr:ica Department, briefingsfor
the Director-Generalin
connectionwith her
officialvisits
to
Member States and ensuring their appropriate follow-up.ln

Advanced university
degree
in
Social
Sciences,
Law
or Administration..
At
least 10 years'
experiencein
public administration,in

Experience in a responsible position within UNESCO, the (JnitedNations system,
in a
specialized institution
or

will

negotiations
with
top-level representativesof the
United Nations andits
specialized agenciesand with
representativesof
governmentsand
non-governmental organizations on issues of overall importance to the Organization. Whenever needed, he/she will replace DIR/ODG, in his/her function..
