Under the authority of the Director of the Headquarters Division and the direct supervision of the Chief of the Safety, Security and Transport Section, the incumbent will be responsible for the operational, logistic, administrative and financial management of the Section and for anticipated evaluation/management of various threats and risks, particularly those concerning Headquarters. The incumbent shall:
assist the Chief of Section in operational, strategic, administrative and futureoriented (formulation, implementation and monitoring) planning missions, alternately, complementarily or subsidiarily with the "United Nationsdesignated" deputy in charge;
ensure permanent management of the Safety, Security and Transport Section (ADM/HOD/SEC) shared alternately with the deputy "DO/UN"; stand in for the Chief of Section;
manage and supervise the security unit and the unit responsible for registration, fuel, parking and transport; evaluate and manage threats and risks;
implement measures for the protection and security of persons and property (internal and outside events; travel by the DirectorGeneral, highlevel Professional category staff, or dignitaries visiting Headquarters; ensure coordination of operations with the delegations and the specialized services of the States concerned);
assist the Chief of Section in the area of recruitment, training for all staff of all Section units; determine objectives and ensure that they are met;
carry out common law investigations and administrative inquiries within the Section; ensure close collaboration with host country or private sector authorities;
carry out studies prior to purchase, monitor the use and maintenance of equipment in the Section;
assist the Chief of Section in all missions and overall advisory duties in all security or securityrelated fields for Headquarters and in the field;
Perform all duties of equivalent level assigned to him/her.
Tertiary education, preferably a master's degree, or equivalent experience and extensive specific training in security and safety related fields.
-At least 10 years' relevant professional experience, with preferably two of these years acquired at the international level, in areas related to security and safety.
Comprehensive knowledge of planning and implementing safety and security programmes.
Experience in management, leadership, training, operational oversight, and control of security/safety teams; good knowledge of professional intervention techniques and methods.
Experience in international cooperation, preferably in the field of training.
Very good knowledge of the protocol and the methodology of the Organization and of managing major events.
Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relations with the authorities of the host country and the network of relevant agencies, as well as with the press.
Excellent knowledge of English or French. Good knowledge of the other language would be an asset. UNESCO's salaries are calculated in United States dollars but mainly paid in local currency. They consist of a basic salary and a post adjustment which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station and exchange rates. For this post, the annual remuneration at the current exchange rate will start from around $66,400 ($62,000 if without dependants) exempt from income tax. In addition, UNESCO offers an attractive benefits package including 30 days' annual vacation, home travel, education grant for dependent children, pension plan and medical insurance. The initial appointment, which is for two years, includes a probationary period of 12 months, and is renewable, subject to satisfactory service. Worldwide mobility is required as staff members have to serve in other duty stations according to UNESCO's job rotation policy. UNESCO is a non-smoking Organization.
