Improvements of General Nature

Ada, Okla. A new Court House was needed, so the club worked in campaiiJl to secure -one.

Alliance, Ohio. Special committee appointed to work for better municipal water 1upply made considerable headway.

Athena, Tenn. Secured extension of railroad facilities for the city.

CleElum, Wash. Club worked for a modern telephone system.

Clifton, N. J. Backed movement to make mail service to the outlying di1trictJ better.

Connersville, Ind. In order to relieve the parking congCJStion ao that people frorn the country and the outer districts of the city might have a place to parlc their cars, Kiwaniana and other men of the community have agreed not to parlc: their cara on the main streets of the city for more than fifteen minuteJ between the hours of 6 A. M. and 6 P. M.

Delphos, Ohio. Proceeds of a ahow went towards the water worka.

El Dorado, Kan•. Dedicated municipal aerial field and turned it over to tho city.

The Kiwanis club leased this field and spent $700 on it. Club raised money by giving aerial circus.

Fredonia, Kana. Planned for Auditorium nnd band shell.

Greenwood, S. C. A Kiwanis committee prepared an outline of new parking and traffic rule11 for the city, which wns accepted almost in its entirety.

Hamlet, N. C. Club was active in getting the City Hall remodeled.

lnine-Ravenna, Ky. Worked for passage of sewer bonds. Supported tho County Fair.

Kilbourn, Wis. Definite steps have been taken by the Kiwanis club for tho crec· ~ tion of a new depot for Kilbourn.

Lancaster, Wis. The club secured the return of the discontinued C. & N. W. train aervice and also brought about the increase and improvement in the mail aervice for the city.

Louisville, Ga. Secured addit.ional mail service for the city, paying. all coats.

Macon, Ga. Co-operated with another civic organization in plan to advortiH mineral resources of state.

Matoaka, ¥/. Va. Obtained increased mail service on Virginian traina.

Medford, Ore. The club took an active part in the membership campaign of the Oregon State Motor Association. The club underwrote all members.

Miami, Fla. Agreed to underwrite open forum for Miami to the extent of $2,000.

Modesto, Calif. Promoted program formally put on by the busine11s men of the city for getting new people into the country. Advertised thi11 on envelopea.

Milledgeville, Ga. Worked for land settlement campaign to get settlers for this county.

Mor1rantown, W. Va. Distributed 4,000 bookleta showing parking rules in Mor·

gantown.

New· Weatminiater, B. C. Co-operated with the Royal Agricultural and Industrial Aaaociations and made arrangements for tho Provincial Exhibition to be held here.

Oakland City, Ind. Helped to secure new $50,000 water works.

Orlando, Fla. Auditorium sponsored by club. Will be erected at cost of $100,000.

Paterson, N. J. Rendered services for the settlement of strike in silk industriea.

Pineville, .Ky. Advertised Clear Creek Springs. Helped in movement to establish local carriera at Post Office.

Plant City, Fla. Worked to improve express facilitieii.

Platteville, Wis. Secured the re-establishment of train service on tho C. & N. W.

Ry.

Point Pleasant, W. Va. The club put on an active campaign to in.stall now equipment in the local exchange.

Pontiac, Ill. Sponsored a County Hiiitorical Society.

Sa~ Marco•, Texas. Appointed committee to promote a new Union Depot.

Tallahauee, Fla. Staged and celebrated the e:x:teniiion of Tallahaaaee'a White Way System which was foiitered by the Kiwanis club.

Thomaston, Ga. New railroad facilities are being sought by tho club.

Sanford, Fla. In a meeting with the Titusville club, the county commisGionen were urged to build a road between the two cities to be used for furthering business condition11.

Toronto, Ohio. Fostered $175,000 school bond issue.

Upper Sandu1ky, Ohio. Succeeded in keeping Ea6tern time in city.

Weat Union, W. Va. Committee appointed to take up with the American Railway Express Company the matter of free delivery of express.

Ya1dma, Wash. Completed the extension of the city limits which wa• done mostly by Kiwanians.

Securing New Industries

Albuquerque, N. M. Joined with other civic organizations in effort11 to get oil producers to locate here.

Aatoria, Oro. Promoted tlie salmon industry.

Benson, Minn. Secured endorsement of proposed sugar beet factory for Benson from Graceville Commercial Club with promise of sugar beet acreage if needed in that section.

Benson, N. C. A Building and Loan Association was organized by the club.

Brunswick, Ga. Completed raising of fund to e~tablish potato curing plant.

Carbon Hill, Ala. Working to have bakery locate here.

Cedartown, Ga. Sponsored a Building and Loan Association which has proven a success.

Columbia, Tenn. Assisted in locating tobacco warehouse in Columbia.

Elizabethtown, Ky. Club put over the raising of $30,000 for the erection of a building for loose leaf tobacco re-drying plant to be located here, payroll of which will be about $1,000 per week.

El Reno, Qkla. Helped to secure additional cotton gin for El Reno.

Fort Valley, Ga. Actively interested in establishing a creamery in this city.

Freeport, Ill. Have drawn up credit extension agreement and begun solicitation of a minimum of $40,000 subscription. Have been successful in bringing two industries to Freeport. Succeeded in bringing a chicken hatchery in town.

Grand Forks, N. D. Gave active support to the drive to locate a beet sugar plant in Greater Grand Forks.

Henry, Ill. Carried on campaign for benefit of new Building and Loan Association.

Horton, Kans. Raised $300 stock subscription for the Building and Loan Asso·

ciation.

Jackson, Ga. Worked to secure new industries for Jackson. Through the co·

operation of the mayor, city council and the county commissioner, the club secured and located a large pimento pepper factory in Jackson. The club underwrote taxes and rentals for a period of time.

Kalispell, Mont. Worked to have a lath mill in Kalispell and negotiating with local people for a site.

Kokomo, Ind. Club members subscribed for bonds in a drive to save the Haynes Automobile Company for Kokomo.

Lewistown, Mont. Worked actively for the reorganization of closed banks.

Manchester, Tenn. Fostered movement to patronize home industry.

Mannington, W. Va. Assisted in the location of chain factory.

Martinsville, Va. Worked to secure new $100,000 enterprise for Martinsville.

Mendota, Ill. Club was responsible for the location of a corn packing plant.

Mt. Sterling, Ky. Actively interested in the promotion of a canning factory for the community.

Nampa, Idaho. Every member of the Kiwanis club worked in conjunction with the Citizens' Committee in raising $45,000 with which to purchase tract of land to be given to the Pacific Fruit Express for the location of their shops.

This industry will bring 2,000 more people to this community and an annual payroll of half a million dollars.

Raton, N. M. In co-operation with other civic organizations, promoted the financ·

ing of a beet sugar factory to be located in the irrigated district of this county. Arrangements were successfully consummated, whereby a $300,000 sugar mill was built in time to take care of pext fall's harvest of beets.

Rocky Mount, N. C. Club brought new cotton buyers to the Rocky Mount cotton market and boosted the Rocky Mount Fair.

Salisbury, N. C. A new creamery was established with the aid of the club.

SeafordJ Del. Interested in securing a milk cooling station.

Selma, N. C. Economic Survey Committee of the Kiwanis club worked with the Industrial Committee, inviting new industries to locate in Selma.

Shelby, N. C. Movement on foot to obtain a furniture factory.

Shreveport, La. Endorsed plan to bring industries to Shreveport.

Sylvester, Ga. Induced manufacturing enterprises to come to Sylvester.

Timmins, Ont. Interested in the securing of a new Building and Loan Association.

Titusville, Fla. Sponsored movement to organize a corporation for the purpose of stimulating the building of homes and hotels.

Vidalia, Ga. Cream shipping depot being built as result of efforts of committee on Agriculture.

Wellington_, Ohio. New factory signed lease for period of years.

Westby, Wis. Investigated the pea industry, both the growing and canning phases.

Yates Center, Kans. Worked for the establishment of a cheese factory. Sales days initiated.

Fairs and Expositions

Aiken, S. C. Club assisted in Community Fair. Interested in having a proposed Sandhill experiment station established in Aiken.

Alva, Okla. Co-operated in putting over three community fairs in small towns and are boosting the fair to be held this month.

Anaconda, Mont. Held an auto show, the proceeds of which were used for com-

munity activities. •

Auburn, Wash. Assisted financially and otherwise in staging annual Auburn Day celebration.

Bangor, Pa. A booth was erected by the Kiwanis club and the Slate Association, where all phases of slate industry were exhibited.

Brookhaven, Miss. Assisted in promoting the County Fair. Secured better price for milk for the dairymen.

Brownwood, Texas. Promoted a "Buy-at-Home" campaign and also assisted in organizing and planning a county fair for l 924.

Caldwell, Idaho. Started and turned over to the Commercial Club as a com- munity activity, the building of a large exhibition for the holding of dairy and poultry shows, with quarters sufficient to hold and quarter the l l 6th cavalry troup with a riding hall.

Carrington, N. D. Took charge of County Home Products Show.

Carthage, 111. The club helped to put over the project of purchasing the County Fair Grounds for the purpose of continuing the fair and making a community club and playground.

Charlottesville, Va. Furnished and erected tents for day nursery at the County Fair, furnishing milk and crackers to children left with nurses in charge.

Cleveland, Tenn. Club sponsored County Fair.

Coffeyville, Kans. Helped to advertise the county fair throughout the county.

Dade City, Fla. Club members undertook to raise by subscriptions, necessary funds for additional buildings for the Annual County Fair.

Davenport, Iowa. Club furnished l 20 volunteer workers for one day at Missouri Valley Fair & Exposition, thus saving $600 in expenses.

Deer Lodge, Mont. Held home products show and carnival.

Dodge City, Kans. Co-operating with township in constructing a community house at a cost of $4,000.

Dover, Ohio. Arranged for Kiwanis rest tents at the County Fair.

Douglas, Ariz. Club donated to Chochise County Fair Association, a four room frame house at a cost of about $450. The rooms were comfortably set up as a ladies' rest room in charge of the

Duncan, Okla. Club took active part in Stephens County Fair.

East Orange, N. J. Aided in conducting booth at County Fair in East Orange.

Goldsboro, N. C. Kiwanis club joined with other civic organizations in success- fully putting over Automobile and Industrial Show.

Hamburg, Iowa. Worked with Hamburg Fair, and put over Corn Show, with

$500 in prizes.

Harlingen, Texas. Put over annual Rio Grande Valley Mid-Winter Fair.

Hartwell, Ga. Succeeded in underwriting Hartwell County Fair.

Hawkinsville; Ga. Conducted a one day fair for the County Club boys and girls, prizes being offered for the best displays.

Kalispell, Mont. Held Home Products Exposition with the idea of instituting a state-wide movement for consumption of home products. Also put on a home products show at the County Fair.

Kingsport, Tenn. An advertising carnival was put on by this club which was a great success. The coat of putting this on was $2,500 and the net profits were over $ l ,500.

Lawrenceburg, Ind. Di.Jplayed local manufactured products at County Fair.

Leesburg, Fla. Secured County Fair.

Lexington, Nebr. Furnished aid to the Dawson County Fair in the form of special police for the grounds, thus reducing their expense about $60 per day for each of the three days the Fair was in session.

Louiaville, Ky. Sponsored Kentucky State Fair.

Lubbock, Texas. Club active in work for South Plains Fair.

Lu'f'erne, Minn. Sponsored special train to Minnesota State Fair and N. W.

Dairy Show.

Madiaon, Ga. Sponsored County Fair.

Manitowoc, Wi1. Joined the civic organization in furnishing 250 autoa and band for County Fair Products Parade at International Dairy Stock Show.

Maquoketa, Iowa. Club assisted the local Fair Association in their refinancing campaign which was a great success and put them on a solid foundation.

Martinaville, Va. Arranged a citizens· meeting to start a co-operative building and loan association. Raised subscriptions for $ 1, 1 00 to induce a new in·

dustry to locate in Martinsville. Assisted in the success of the county fair.

Through the New Enterprise Committee, the club organized two new in·

duatrics for the town, an overall factory and a women· s dress factory.

Minot, N. D. Aasisted in the Northwest Fair.

Mountain Grove, Mo. Put over annual Stock Show.

North Platte, Nebr. Club sponsored a Boosters' trip to 13 neighboring towns, boosting County Fair.

Opelika, Ala. Kiwanis was a great factor in putting over the Fair. Two prizes being awarded to the best community exhibits.

Ottawa, Ont. Installed Day Nursery at Annual Fair, and took care of over 2,000 children.

Polaon, Mont. Club promoted the annual Community Fair.

Richmond, Ind. Assisted in arranging a Free County Fair.

Rome, Ga. Helped the Farm Bureau put over the Georgia-Alabama Fair.

Rome, N. Y. Boosted Rome's first Chautauqua and helped the Oneida County Agricultural Society to put over the most successful County Fair ever had.

Santa Fe, N. M. The club took an active part in making the Santa Fe Fiesta a

auccess. The Kiwanians appeared in costume during the three days of the Fiesta, and prepared special music and songs for community singing during each day.

Shelby, N. C. Cleveland County Fair sponsored by the club is being put into final shape for exhibition.

Spokane, Wash. Co-operated with the Spokane realtors in the First Annual Home and Building Exposition.

Swift Current, Sask. Assisted in holding of the South-West Saskatchewan Corn

Washington, Ga. Co-operated with American Legion in putting over Agricul·

tural Fair.

Wichita Falla, Texas. Assisted Chamber of Commerce and Fair Association in promoting Texas-Oklahoma Fair.

Winchester, Ky. Assisted in making Clark County School and Agricultural Fair a aucceaa. Donated toward expenses of the Fair Association.

New Hotels

Alexandria, Va. Aaaieted in raising money for new modern hotel in Alexandria.

Ashland, Ore. Club sponsored new $250,000 tourist hotel.

Euton, iPa. Members solicited subscriptions for a new hotel. Total subscription•

received, $750,000. The hotel and site will cost one and one-quarter million dollars. Structure will be completed in 19 26.

F1orence, S. C. Assisted in making $400,000 hotel for Florence a reality by aelJing $75,000 2nd mortgage bonds together with other organizations.

Hickory, N. C. $306,200 has been raised for the building of a modern hotel.

Louinille, Ga. Through the enterprise of members of this club, a new hotel, the .. Jefferson,•• has been erected and opened in Louisville.

The club took a very important part in raising $684,000 for a new community hotel.

Toccoa, Ga. A aew hotel was completed with the aid of the club.

Troy, Ala. A committee appointed to look into the needs and coat of a new hotel.

Waukesha, Wis. Active in municipal hotel project.

Extending Markets for Local Products

Asbury Park, N. J. Started a "Trade-at-Home" campaign and referred it to the Inter-City Council.

Brun&wick, Ga. Worked to extend "White Way."

Clarion, Pa. Endorsed a "Trade Expansion Week" of local merchants.

Columbia, Tenn. Arranged and carried out three all-day booster trips to sur- rounding communities. About thirty cars made up the caravan which travelled about 200 miles spreading the spirit of friendly co-operation.

Concord, N. C. Underwrote part of advertising or publicity edition in New York Tribune, advertising the Carolinas, and the City of Concord, along with other cities in the atate of North Carolina.

Dade City, Fla. Road aigns for boosting Dade City were made and erected by tho club.

Dodge City, Kana. Held a joint meeting with other civic organizations at which home grown foodatuffs, except salt, were served exclusively. This was a much advertised affair and is being widely copied in other communities of the state.

El Paso, Texas. Inaugurated a "Home Industries" program to stimulate the sale of local products. Each week some industry has a display at the meeting which waa explained and advertised by a five minute talk.

Florence, Ala. Ran a series of ten full page advertisements in the Florence Herald advocating activity in building up Florence industrially, educationally and morally, and calling upon the business men and citizens to co-operate for improvement.

Freeport, 111. Promoted and advertised Freeport as an excellent industrial center, advertising in The Chicago Tribune. Entertained a number of represen- tatives ,of possible new industries in Freeport.

Greenville, Mias. Helped make "Trade Week" a success. Promoted a community loan bank.

Hamburg, Iowa. Promoted 'Turkey Day," a week before Thanksgiving, at which time turkeys and fowls were given away and a general bargain salo was held by the merchants.

Hammond, Ind. Planned the construction of a public market.

Hollywood, Calif. Members took part in community drive to raise money for advertising their city. Teams from the Kiwanis club obtained over half of the subscriptions.

Jamestown, N. D. Assisted in advertising "Truth about North Dakota."

Ingersoll, Ont. The Kiwanis club sponsored a three day campaign to promote better business and closer relations between the town and rural districts.

The results were very satisfactory and the effort was one which was much appreciated.

Jacksonville, Fla. Action has been taken to secure an advertising budget for city.

Kaliapell, Mont. Sponsored the distribution of miniature apple boxeo to advertise Flathead fruit.

Lancaster, S. C. Sponsored Merchants' Co-operative sale to stimulate trade.

Prizes were offered valued at $1,000. Sales for month, $250,000. Mer- chants benefitted in new business and especially in collection of old accounta.

Thia wa1 a success in every way and will be repeated in the fall.

Louiaville, Ga. Printed and distributed I 0,000 road maps of the state advertising the city and ita industries. Worked on project for a new hotel.

Mansfield, La. Helped secure an advertising club for tho town of Mansfield, in order to enlarge the trade territory.

Mineral Wells, Texaa. Taking an active interest in co-operative marketing.

New Richmond, Wia. Extended an invitation to Kiwanis meetings to all of the sixteen traveling men who make their homes in this city, C}S they are in a position to advertise their home city and bring back reports of civic activi- ties carried on by other cities. Club was instrumental in bringing to New Richmond a cheese box assembling plant.

Norton, Va. Arranged for the entertainment of guests from New England who were looking over certain sections of Virginia in order 'to form better and closer business acquaintance. A committee spent two days with these vi1itora showing them through this territory.

Ocean City, N. J. The Kiwanis Club broadcasted a forty minute program from Station WIP, including a talk on advantages of Ocean City as seaside resort.

Okmulgee, Okla. Gave radio concert advertising Okmulgee.

Phoenix, Ariz. Assisted in completing drive of the Phoenix-Arizona Advertising Club for funds to continue advertising of Arizona during the year 1925.

Portland, Ore. On initiative of the Kiwanis Club, the Chamber of Commerce provided illustrated talks on local industries and scenery and made up auto trips. Club conducted Mt. Hood trip.

PortsR1outh, Va. ~ppropr~ated $120 and erected road sign in connection with Buy-at-Home campaign.

Sioux Falls, S. D. Aided in advertising South Dakota's resources.

Sapulpa, Okla. Endorsed and assisted in "Trade-at-Home .. campaign.

Sunbury, Pa. At inter-club picnic club distributed souvenir cards showing points of interest about Sunbury and also 2,000 small cards with candles attached, advising that Sunbury was the birthplace of electric lights.

Tacoma, Wash. Raised $5,000 in four days as Tacoma's share in the Puget Sound advertising campaign. This proposition was taken over by the Kiwanis club when other means had failed.

Valley City, N. D. The local products exhibit hut at the tourist camp has' been the object of much interest by visitors enroute to the national parks. Moved hut to business section in winter. Exhibited products on a truck sent to several county fairs in surrounding states.
