CHAPTER I INTRODUCTIONINTRODUCTION
C. The Setting of the Research
2. Observation
The observations have been done to collect the information about the problem found in teaching process. In doing action research, the teacher followed the lesson plan to solve the problem. In this research, the data that was collected through observation was done by the collaborator. Here the teacher and students were the subjects of the observation. There are two kinds of observation sheet which were used in this research:
a. Indicators of reading comprehension of narrative texts. This description was used to observe whether the teacher taught the indicators of reading comprehension of narrative texts or not.

b. Indicators of Using Video Movie
Observation sheets were used to obtain data about students’ reading comprehension of narrative text through a video movie as the media in the teaching and learning process. The researcher observed the students’ activities during the teaching and learning process while viewing the video movie. The
researcher was helped by a collaborator during the teaching and learning process in order to help her conduct this study. The observation was done by using the observation sheets consisting of indicators of the students and the teacher’s activities during the teaching and learning process. Then, observations based on the lesson plan of teaching reading comprehension of narrative text through video movie was also to be used in order to observe the effectiveness of using video movie in the process of teaching and learning. Moreover, descriptions were to be given by the researcher and the collaborator. The collaborator gave some descriptions while the students or teacher did the steps in the sheet. On the other hand, the collaborator gave some descriptions when the teacher or the students did not do the steps on sheet. Moreover, the researcher asked the collaborator to write down any notes if necessary.

3. Field Notes
Field notes had been used as additional instrument for the observation. It was used to answer research question number 2, namely: How is the students’
participation in reading comprehension of narrative text when the researcher applies video movie as visual aids at grade eleventh Social 2 of MAN 2 Model?
Field notes were used to note all activities in the class during the teaching and learning. It was also used to note students’ and teachers’ problems during the learning process through the video movie.

4. Interview
Interviews were conducted to find what happened during the implementation of the research and the result of applying the video movie of
narrative story in the classroom. By doing this procedure, the researcher attempted to recognize the students’ own perception of the effectiveness of the video movie in improving their reading. Moreover, the researcher guided the interview. It means that, the researcher asked questions related to the learning activities faced by the students. The result of the interview helped the researcher to better plan for the next meeting.
