According to Rector’s Regulation of Brawijaya University Number 223/PER/2010, to take final project exam of FMIPA UB Undergraduate Academic Project examination, students are required to make Final Project in a form of Thesis. Thesis is a scientific work in the field of science which could be written based on research results or other works that are comparable to the research results determined by each department.
2.9.1 Undergraduate Program Final Project Examination
To take undergraduate program final project examination, a student should make a final project in a form of thesis, i.e., scientific work in the field of science written based on research results, literature study, field practice, internship, and other tasks set by the faculty.
a. Final Project Program Requirements
A student is allowed to program a final project if it meets the following requirements:
1. Active as a student in the academic year concerned;
2. Collect at least 120 SCU following the Faculty provisions and/or under the Study Program Policies;
3. Minimum GPA of 2.0;
4. No E score of at least 120 taken SC; and
5. SCU with D and/or D+ is not more than 10% of total credit load.
b. Final Project Procedures and Methods
Final Project procedures and methods are regulated in final project procedure guidelines.
c. Final Project Credit Score
Final Project Credit Score of FMIPA UB undergraduate program is 6 SCU.
d. Final Project Completion Time
1. Undergraduate program final project must be completed in one semester since the final project is programmed in Study Plan Card.
2. Extension of time must be approved by Head of the Department in the procedure determined by the department.
e. Final Project Adviser
In doing final project, a student is guided by one or two people consist of one First Adviser and one Second Adviser.
1. Adviser Requirements
Based on Law Number 14 Year 2005 about Teacher and Lecturer as well as Law Number 12 Year 2012 about Higher Education, first/second adviser has at least an Expert Assistance academic functional position, with additional title of at least Master or equal to level 8 KKNI qualifications relevant to final project topic (Table
2.4 and Table 2.5).

2. Adviser Determination
Head of Study Program determines the first and second advisers. The department proposes a letter of assignment for the guidance team to the Dean.
3. Adviser’s Authority and Responsibilities
The Authority and Responsibilities of the first adviser are:
a. Assist the students in finding the problems used as the basis of the final project;
b. Guide students in completing final project; and c. Guide students in writing final project.
The Authority and responsibilities of the Second Adviser is to assist the first adviser in guiding students completing their final project.
4. Head of the study program/department could propose advisory team replacement if:
a. The adviser is permanently unable to attend (passed away, retire, permanently sick, and study assignments)
b. The adviser resigns
c. There are communication barriers between student and adviser 2.9.2 Nature and Objectives of Undergraduate Program Final Project
a. Undergraduate Program final project is a thesis examination that must be taken by student as the requirement to obtain bachelor’s degree.
b. Undergraduate Program final project is comprehensive in nature.
c. Examination is carried out orally and intended to evaluate the student in knowledge mastery and technology application following their field of expertise.
d. Undergraduate Program final project is also intended to equip students to things considered weak.
2.9.3 Undergraduate Program Final Project Exam Requirements
A student is allowed to take Undergraduate Program Final Project Exam if he/she meets the following requirements:
a. Active as student in the academic year concerned;
b. Collect at least 138 SCU as set by the faculty;
c. Minimum GPA of 2.00;
d. No E score of at least 138 taken SCU;
e. SCU with D and/or D+ is not more than 10% of total credit load.
f. Completed the writing and submit thesis script; and g. Meet other requirements as set by the faculty.
2.9.4 Application Procedure of Undergraduate Program Final Project Exam
The application procedure of undergraduate program final project exam is set by the faculty by considering the administrative and academic requirements.
2.9.5 Board of Examiners of Undergraduate Program Final Project Exam
a. The board of examiners is set by the head of department on the suggestion of First Adviser b. The board of examiners consists of three people, i.e., adviser with one or two examiners.
c. The head of board examiners is the adviser or examiner as pointed by the Head of Faculty d. The board of examiners are lecturers with the following qualifications:
Have a functional academic position at least equivalent to an adviser as written in Table 2.5. The determination of board of examiners besides the abovementioned requirements are set by the Dean at the suggestion of the Head of Study Program/Department.
e. The examiner members could consist of adviser and non-adviser.
f. Non-adviser examiners could be appointed from the department/institution lecturers with fields in accordance with student final project.
g. The Tasks of the Board of Examiners of Undergraduate Program Final Project Exam 1. The head examiner is in charge of managing the exam to run well.
2. Examiners are responsible to test and assess.
2.9.6 Undergraduate Program Final Project Exam Period
The maximum time provided for the final exam is two hours.
2.9.7 Assessment
a. Undergraduate program final project examination assessment covers:
1. The thesis quality (skripsi) which includes academic weight and writing procedures;
2. Behavior during examination; and
3. Materials mastery as seen in answering the questions from the board of examiners b. Final score Determination
The head examiner leads the discussion to determine the exam final score stated in letters such as A, B+, B, C+, C, D+, D, or E. Final score of the final project also includes the score of final project implementation and seminar score which weight determined by each department
c. To be declared to have pass the undergraduate program final project examination, a student must at least score in C.
d. Students who do not pass the final project exam yet must follow the decision of the board of examiners.
2.9.8 Final Project Administration Completion
a. After being declared to have passed the Final Project, the student is given two weeks or 14 working days to do revision and submit the thesis script signed by the adviser and Head of Department/Head of Study Program to FMIPA UB academic sub-division.
b. If the revision is not completed within two weeks or 14 working days, the student’s score will be degraded by one level. If the student gets A, it would be degraded to B+, and so on.
c. If the revision is not completed within one month, the student must go through a final project exam all over again, and the exam fee is the responsibility of the student.
d. If after two months the revision is not yet completed, the student must conduct a research under a new title and could have the first adviser and second adviser changed.
2.9.9 Student’s Written Creative Scientific Work Equity to Thesis
UB Rector’s Regulation Number 223/PER/2010 and the Decree of the Dean Faculty of FMIPA UB Number 157 Year 2014 set the provisions of student’s written creative scientific work equity to thesis. The implementation is further regulated by each department.
2.9.10 Undergraduate Program Final Assessment
According to the Rector’s Regulation Number 22 Year 2015 Chapter I Article 1 Paragraph 3, final assessment is the decision of the Dean/Head of Program/Graduate
Program Director that determines that a student has completed the study and declared to have passed the course in accordance to the graduation requirements in the faculty/program/graduate program.
a. A student is said as a graduate if:
- Has meet the requirements as mentioned in sub chapter 2.7;
- Does not exceed the maximum study period of seven years; and - Uploads self-photo and thesis in SIAM.
b. Predicate
The graduation predicate consists of three levels, i.e., satisfying, very satisfying, and with praise as stated in academic transcript. The GPA as the basis for determining the predicate of graduation based on the Regulation of the Minister Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Permenristekdikti) Number 44 Year 2015 about National Standard of Higher Education (SN Dikti) and UB Regulations Number 1 Year 2017 about Quality Standards are:
1. GPA 3.51 – 4.00 : With Honor 2. IPK 3,01 – 3,50 : Very Satisfying 3. IPK 2,76 – 3,00 : Satisfying 4. 4. IPK 2,00 – 2,75 : -
The predicate of graduation with honors is also determined by considering the maximum study period. It is a maximum of four years for undergraduate program. Have never been subjected to disciplinary sanctions, or academic sanctions, no C+ (minimum B) score and (n+0,25) for program transfer.
c. Bachelor’s Degree
Bachelor’s Degree is arranged through the Government Regulations Number 17 Year 2010 about Management and Implementation of Education and Kepmenristekdikti Number 257/M/KPT/2017 updated in the Decree of Director General of Belmawa Kemenristekdikti Number 46/B/HK/2019 about the list of names of study program in higher education, hence, the degree for undergraduate program academic education graduates is: Bachelor, written behind the name of the rightful by including letter S. and followed by the initials of the study program or field of science (For degree of Bachelor of Biology, Bachelor of Chemistry, Bachelor of Physics, Bachelor of Instrumentation: S.Si., for the degree of Bachelor of Mathematics: S.Mat., for the degree of Bachelor of Statistics: S.Stat., for the degree of Bachelor of Geophysical Engineering: S.T.).
