FIFTH SESSION

The Chariman declared the following duly elected as Regional Councilors:

Region !-Charles F. Miller Region 2-Bob Stahl Region 3-Harry Grabner Region 5-Rudy Koenig Region 6-Al Warr Region 8-0tto Nell, Sr.

Region 9-Clifford E. Anderson

Further nominations for Regional Councilor for Region IV were then called for by Chairman Doyle. The name of Turner James Szilagyi of Cleveland was placed in nomination. A ballot was ordered taken for the election of Regional Councilor for Region IV. The vote resulted as follows:

Chairman declared James Szilagyi duly elected Regional Councilor for Region IV of the American Turners.

The Chairman then announced that the next business would be the election for the office of Regional Councilor for Region VII.

The Chair then asked for additional nominations for Regional Councilor for Region VII. There being no further nominations a ballot was ordered taken for the election of one of the two candidatt:s presented by the Nominating Committee.

Blank ballots were then passed out, and collected, and checked for total number of votes and counted by the Tellers. The vote resulted as follows:

The Chairman accordingly declared Turner George Kuettner elected Re- gional Councilor for Region VII.

As this completed the election of officers Chairman Doyle discharged the Nominating Committee and the Election Tellers with thanks.

The Chairman then stated that the next order of business was Unfinished Business.

The National Council has reported that the following Societies have withdrawn from the American Turners and these withdrawals have not yet been approved for such purpose by the National Convention:

Central States District-Athenaeum Turners, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Motion duly made and seconded that we accept with regret the resignation of Athenaeum Turners of Indianapolis, Indiana. This motion was carried by voice vote.

Central States District-Central Turners Inc., Evansville, Indiana.

Motion made and duly seconded that we accept the National Council's recommendation that resignation of Central Turners Inc. of Evansville, con- tingent upon this society paying back dues which has been offered. Motion carried by voice vote.

Mrs. Barrow of Toledo explained that any Women's Auxiliary which was originally affiliated with a Turner Society may still belong to the National Women's Auxiliary.

New Jersey District-Greenville Turners, Jersey City, New Jersey.

President Kierschner explained that this society, Greenville Turners, no longer exists, having been dissolved in violation of the Statutes of the American Turners, and the building sold. Recommend that the society be kept on the rolls and legal steps be taken to recover the funds of the Society.

Motion was made, seconded, and carried to accept the recommendation of the National Council as stated by President Turner Kierschner.

Southern California District-Oakland Turnverein.

Motion made and seconded that Convention accept the recommendation of Regional Councilor Otto Nell, Sr., that society be dropped from membership in the American Turners. This motion was carried by voice vote.

As there was no further Unfinished Business Chairman stated the next order of business wa New Business.

NEW BUSINESS

Dr. E. A. Eklund, National Secretary, announced that Central Turn Verein of New York had merged with the New York Turn Verein as of June 18, 1956.

National Secretary Turner Eklund also announced the merger of Forward Turner Society, Social Turners, and Swiss Society, all of the City of Chicago, to form a new Society-American Turners, Northwest, Chicago.

Dr. E. A. Eklund, National Secretary, also announced new District affilia- tion: Kansas City Turners have left the Midwest District and joined the St.

Louis District.

Chairman Doyle announced that these mergers and new District affiliations do not require any action on the part of this Convention.

National Secretary Turner Eklund also announced that a new Society has been enrolled-Bridgeport Turner Association of Bridgeport, Connecticut- on September 15, 19 55.

National Secretary Turner Eklund stated that Turner Herman Eisele had resigned as Chairman of the National Cultural Rules Committee. It was ac- cepted with deep regret by the National Council.

National Secretary Dr. Eklund informed the Convention that he had re- quested Turner Herman Eisele, who is a Patent Engineer, about securing for the American Turners the exclusive right to the use of the word .. Turner."

In his letter to Dr. Eklund dated August 17, 1956 the following is his opinion. Quote:

.. The word •turner' is a dictionary word and its exclusive use cannot be appropriated by anyone.

Chairman Doyle then announced that Kansas City was selected to be host at the next National Convention in 195 8, which is also the Centennial for Kansas City Turners.

Turner Carl R. Anderson of Moline also spoke about the National Bowling Tournament stating that very favorable facilities are being arranged; also that Turner Societies traveling the greatest distances will be given choice of dates at the Tournament.

At this time Chairman Forrest F. Steinlage stated he had a Supplemental Report of the Publicity Committee to present and asked permission to do so.
