vii ABSTRACT

RISNAWATI. 2016. The Effect of Using Strorytelling as Media to Improve Students’ English Pronounciation in Speaking at SMP Nurkarya Tidung. Thesis. English Department. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Muhammadiyah University Makassar.

This research aimed at finding out the students’ motivation (intrinsic and extrinsic motivation) in learning English pronunciation at the eight grade of SMP Nurkarya Tidung. The Consultant by Andi Tenri Ampa and Yasser Mallapiang.

The research was applied pre-experimental method with one group pre-test and post-test design. The instrument of this research was oral test. The population of this research was eight grade and the total sample of this research consisted of 22 students’.

The result of data analysis showed that there was significant different between the students’ result in mean score of pre-test and post-test. The mean score of the students in pretest was 4.05 and the mean score of the students’ in posttest was 6.6.

The result of pre-test and post-test had improvement which was 63.5%.

The data showed that using storytelling as media in teaching pronounciation could improve the students’ pronounciation.

Based on the result analysis, it was concluded that the students’ have sufficient comprehention to develop their pronounciation by using storytelling as media.
