Football Team Moves Up in Division III Rankings

The Alfred University Football Team continued its ascent in the Division III rankings this week, moving up to 12th in the D3football.com poll and 14th in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) poll.

The Saxons, who defeated Utica 35-7 on Saturday to improve to 6-0 on the year (4-0 Empire 8), had been ranked 14th and 16th, respectively in the D3football.com and AFCA polls.

The six wins to start the season are the most for an AU football team since the 1981 Saxons finished the regular season 10-0 en route to the schools first and only trip to the NCAA Division III

championship tournament. At 4-0, Alfred stands alone atop the Empire 8 Conference standings.

AU plays next on Saturday against visiting Husson College in the Saxons' regular season home finale.

Kickoff, originally scheduled for 1 p.m., has been moved up to noon.

After this weekend's game, Alfred finishes the season with three road contests: at Hobart (Oct. 27), at Ithaca (Nov. 3), and at St. John Fisher (Nov. 10). Kickoff for all three games is 1 p.m. Ithaca and Fisher are the Saxons' final Empire 8 Conference foes.

"THE TURNAROUND OF THE MARVEL BRAND"

Alfred University alumnus and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Peter Cuneo, chairman of Marvel Enterprises, Inc. will be speaking with students at Alfred University on Thursday, October 18th from 5- 6 p.m. in the Nevins Theatre in the Powell Campus Center.

The topic of his presentation will be "The Turnaround of the Marvel Brand." Peter will share the story and strategic decisions of the team that helped bring Marvel Enterprises from bankruptcy to the global brand powerhouse that we know today.

The Harvard Business School called Peter Cuneo "Marvel's Superhero CEO." Cuneo has been called

"Turnaround Man" after completing seven successful turnarounds at consumer-product companies such as Marvel Enterprises Inc., Clairol, Black & Decker, and Remington.

Marvel counts among its characters such well-known properties as Spider-Man, the X-Men and their member Wolverine, the Fantastic Four, The Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, Daredevil, Ghost Rider and many others. Most of Marvel's fictional characters are depicted as inhabiting a single shared world; this continuity is known as the Marvel Universe.

Trailers for upcoming Marvel projects like Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and The Spectacular Spider- Man, will also be shown and demonstrate the power of the Marvel Universe brand.
