INDRODAKTION

A Language is a tool and container used to communicate and convey a meaning or edict (Vigoroso et al, 2020). Meaning of language is an arrangement of words or a group of sentences that are formed to produce a meaning that can be understood and used. In human daily life, language is often used in almost every field of life, such as in the social, political, cultural, even in the field of trade. The Language will continue to change over time. Therefore, language has a dynamic nature that will change every region, generation, custom, and so on. As in English which has become an international language.

English continues to change from time to time.

In English, changes are more significant than in other languages.

Language is an arrangement of words consisting of morphemes, both related and free morphemes. Morphine is a meaning that has the smallest language unit. Language is an arrangement of words that are formed and have meaning. Language has different meanings in every word order that is formed. Linguistics has one branch of science, namely morphology.

Morphology is the study of the formation of words. One example of morphology is affixation. Affixation or commonly referred to as affixation is a word-formation process by adding affixes (affixes) in either basic form, complex basis, or single basis. In every

magazine, novel, newspaper, script, or song lyrics, we often find the process of adding words or affixation. In a song lyric, it takes several aspects such as beauty, sound, words, language style, and many others from the feelings of the writer or singer in the process of making lyrics.

Inflective and derivative consoles were found in the process of forming affixation (affixes).

Inflection is the process of forming a word by adding an affix but not changing the word class.

In contrast to reflective, derivatives are additions of affixes that result in a change in word class.

Literature is understood as the work of a form of artistic activity that combines expression and creation. One of the works of art created to be enjoyed by the general public is film and songs (Alda, 2020). Without being quoted, there are many wordings and material that can be discussed and studied in a sentence or even a word. Language is art or symbol that is expressed in the form of sound or speech. When the arrangement of the language is used to communicate or otherwise, the words use figures of speech or metaphors. Metaphor is a material that results from mental construction based on the principle of analogy that can involve conceptualization. Many people think that metaphor is only found in a literary work. This thought can be formed because many artists create works such as poetry, songs, rhymes, and

(3)

others that insert figurative words or metaphors.

While metaphor has the meaning of transferring one concept to another. In the use of these metaphors, they do not use additional conjunctions but are directly connected to other points that identify the transfer of concepts.

When viewed from the meaning of this metaphor can shorten the sentence because it can connect the main point with other points.

In this paper, we will discuss and focus on the negation, shackles, and rebellion carried out by Princess Jasmine from an actuarial and semiotic perspective from the lyrics of the Speechless song. In poetry, studies are often carried out to reflect on values, educational practices, development of character education, creative processes, or aesthetic issues. Poetry has been developed musically to restore the essence of poetry as a sung story. Starting from this hypothesis, this paper will raise the Speechless song which was released in 2019 as the object of study. This song is an accompaniment to a phenomenal film, namely the Aladdin film produced by Walt Disney. This Speechless song was studied to find out the stylistics, narrators, reflected in the social context to reveal grammar, diction, meaning, and psychological realities that might occur.

The source of this research is the song Alan Menken which is sung directly by Naomi Scott in the film "Aladdin" which is one of the

identity songs of the film. Alan Menken is a musician who has made famous cool songs such as the songs sung in the films “Beauty and The Beast”, “Pocahontas, “Tangled”, “Enchanted”,

“Aladdin”, animated versions. Including the song "A Whole New World" which was recently sung by Zayn Malik and Zhavia Ward. Alan Menken created a song called "Speechless"

which became one of the collections that made Alan Menken's career continue to improve over time. In creating the song "Speechless" Alan Menken was not alone, but there were two other creators, namely the duo Justin Paul and Benj Pasek. The two creators besides Alan Menken also have a collection of songs that are quite well known and internationally which were worked on in the films "La La Land" and "The Greatest Showman" and many others.

The research problem studied is the meaning of the song lyrics created by Alan Menken, the duo Justin Paul, and Benj Pasek (Roberts & Nicholas, 2020). Alan Menken's song, sung in the film Aladdin, is sung by Princess Jasmine to her father and his warrior named Jafar. The song examines the relationship between the Speechless song and the Aladdin film, and the song is very closely related to the Aladdin film. This Speechless song was created to be worked on by the Aladdin film. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the relationship between the song and the film. In addition, research was also carried out to find

out the meaning contained in the speechless song word for word in the film. This Speechless song is sung by Princess Jasmine also expresses her frustration with the unfair rules that continue to be enforced without seeing the offended party. In addition, the speechless song has many

meanings, even without being associated with the film Aladin. Searching or listening to Speechless song lyrics can be seen through various applications that are guaranteed and can be used in general, such as Youtube, Google, Internet, Crome, Joox, and many others.

METHOD

The method used to conduct research is a qualitative method that has descriptive nature. In song lyrics or to hear songs, you can use application media that are common and can be used by anyone. The type of data in this study is the original lyrics of the Speechless song. The first song analysis is to determine the song that will be analyzed for its meaning and meaning.

After setting the song to be analyzed, the second step is to listen to the selected song. Because the song that will be analyzed is speechless, the practitioner listens to the song through internet media that can be used to listen to the song. The last step is to record the sentences that have the greatest meaning and influence from the song. in the speechless song, several stanzas have the same lyrics as in the fourth stanza which is the same as the sixth stanza, and in the third stanza which is the same as the sixth. In the same stanza, the research

takes the earliest stanza to find its meaning.

After that, take the stanza that has the most meaningful meaning to be studied and discussed more deeply.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION RESULTS

The speechless song sung by Naomi Scott in the film Aladdin is a form of Princess Jasmine's rebellion against the rules and traditions of her kingdom. Princess Jasmine's rebellion was not just an ordinary rebellion, but a rebellion against a rule that was detrimental to one party. Rules and traditions that distinguish a person based on their gender. This song seems to convey an opinion that has been silent for a long time.

First verse

Here comes a wave Meant to waste me away

(5)

352

A tide that is taking me under

Swallowing sand Left with nothing to say

My voice drowned out in the thunder

In the first stanza of the speechless song, it tells about the situation about a situation that cannot be opposed. "here comes a wave" is the existence of a person who must always follow the wave of currents that no one can oppose. His existence was thought to be a passing wind. It doesn't matter how loud it screams, because it's only considered as a small stone throw. “my voice drowned out in the thunder” the opinion expressed sinks without being filtered. No one listens to a woman's opinion. Because what they want is obedience and submission without having to care about what their opinion is.

Second stanza But I won't cry

And I won't start to crumble Whenever they try

To shut me down or cut me down

From this second stanza, it has been shown that there is a negative diction, namely by rejection with the word "No". The word refusal

is not without reason, but there is an expression in his body and the feeling of wanting to rebel that begins to arise. In addition to the word "no"

there are several dictions that show the connotations of suffering that have arisen, such as crying, breaking, blocking, and hurting. The connotation of suffering is more striking in the following stanzas as in the third stanza as a chorus and repetition.

Third stanza I won't be silenced You can't keep me quiet Won't tremble when you try it All I know is I won't go speechless

In the third stanza, there is the sentence

"you can't keep me quiet". The sentence is an opinion that no one can silence the truth but that the truth will be revealed at the right time. The sentence is addressed to oneself to keep speaking without thinking about others as long as you are on the right path. The sentence also explains that everyone has the right to give an opinion, regardless of the nature and position of a person. Rejection is reinforced in each array there is the phrase "will not". When viewed from the aspect in English, the word refers to the aspect of time. A past modality that shows that

"in the past, it never happened" so that "in the present, it doesn't happen either".

(6)

353

Fourth stanza

Cause I'll breathe

When they try to suffocate me Don't you underestimate me

Cause I know that I won't go speechless

In both fours, Princess Jasmine made it clear her resistance from the word “wouldn't” to the negative reality. As in the sentence “cause I'll breathe” “when they try to suffocate me”, it has the meaning of a person with a firm opinion who will continue to move forward even though there are absolute rules or things that hinder him.

This verse contains the reality of the act of suffocating and belittling. As there has been previous good showing the words “destroyed”

and “wounded”, this action became Princess Jasmine's rejection of the corruption of traditions.

Fifth stanza Written in stone Every rule, every word Centuries-old and unbending Stay in your place

Better seen and not heard But now that story is ending

The 4th stanza, explains the rules or traditions that cannot be changed. 'Written in stone' has the meaning of writing that cannot be erased or a nature made of nature. This sentence explains the nature of a woman such as pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and the nature of other women's roles. from the nature of the woman makes the difference injustice in the eyes of the law.

Sixth stanza Cause I

I cannot start to crumble So come on and try

Try the shut me and cut me down

This sixth stanza is a continuation of the fifth stanza and serves as the motivation for the fifth stanza. Just like in the previous stanza, this stanza also uses words that are a rejection of discriminatory rules. However, the sixth stanza also shows the power that hinders and injures himself. The seventh stanza is a repetition of the third stanza which is used as a song ref.

DISCUSSION

A song is a composition of tone art or sound that is formed in sequence, combination, temporal to produce a musical composition that forms and has unity and continuity.

Compositions are the same spelling and

(7)

pronunciation but have different meanings or can be called homonyms. Songs are also called a variety of funds or rhythmic sounds. Ordinary songs are written by a writer and sung by a poet.

Songs can be sung solo, in twos, threes, or in groups.

Film or commonly referred to as a movie is an image that contains life and can be enjoyed by the audience. Film if interpreted collectively is usually called cinema. While cinema itself has the meaning of kinematic or motion. According to the world of filmmakers, the film is layers of cellulose liquid commonly known as celluloid.

When viewed from the media, films are included in mass communication media. Because in general, films are often used as a medium that describes social life in society. The film is also often referred to as one of the mass media as the most effective means of communication. It is not uncommon for high-ranking officials such as the government to provide direction to their people through the mass media of film.

This song is about someone who is trying to break free from the shackles that are bound to him. The shackles of a tradition have a detrimental impact on him. This song reflects on the disadvantages that someone who has no right to an opinion has, because of the rules and his unsupportive position. Someone who silences his opinion either because of a tradition, a rule, or because of a regime. This song reflects the

nature of "rebellion" to be able to get out of the shackles that have been formed for a long time, which can inspire many people out there, not to give up on circumstances, and don't give up (desperate), and keep trying to bring about a change.

The song Speechless was popularized by Naomi Scott which became the soundtrack for the film Aladdin (Yusuf, 2020). Speechless is sung by Naomi Scott. Meanwhile, the songwriters are Alan Menken, Benj Pasek, and Justin. The lyrics were composed by Walt Disney and became part of the film Aladdin which premiered in Indonesia on May 24, 2019 (Rohman, 2019). Aladdin is a film directed by Guy Ritchie. The film Aladdin managed to earn a budget of USD 926.4 million or the equivalent of Rp. 13272532.80 million.

In Aladdin, Naomi Scott's voice sings Speechless at a time when her parents' power fell to a warrior turned magic named Jafar.

Aladdin accidentally drops his wall lamp on Jafar which makes the warrior strong and can overthrow the king. The king, the father of Princess Jasmine, has been taken prisoner by Jafar and Aladdin has no power but himself.

At that time Princess Jasmine as the crown princess felt that she had a responsibility to the kingdom owned by her father. He feels he has a responsibility towards his father, the kingdom, and the entire kingdom. At such a condition

(8)

355

Princess Jasmine made up her mind to rise from an impossible position to save and restore everything as it should be. In general, the Speechless song is a song that tells about someone who shows an angry attitude, gets up, and fights against the shackles of power.

Speechless itself has the meaning of

"silent", in the sense that a person is in a condition or situation where he cannot say anything, either out of amazement, amazement, restraint, or because of other factors. as a result of these factors, a person will choose to be silent, silent, not forward, and not back down on the conditions he is facing. But being silent or acting is a choice. A person can freely do what he will do. Because every action you take will bring about a change in yourself.

This song became famous when it was sung in the film "Aladdin" by Princess Jasmine.

Princess Jasmine is a princess and the only child of a kingdom. The kingdom has a tradition that only a man can become a royal leader, while women do not have the power to become a leader let alone a king. Seeing conditions that do not have a bright spot, the warrior named Jafar has evil intentions and ambitions to take over power in the kingdom. When the prime minister becomes greedy for power, Princess Jasmine sings the song Speechless as a form of rebellion against traditions and rules that only benefit one party.

One of the creators of the Speechless song is Alan Menken (Condon, 2017). It was he who made cool and famous songs in the films

“Beauty and The Beast”, “Pocahontas,

“Tangled”, “Enchanted”, “Aladin”, animated versions. Including the song "A Whole New World" which was recently sung by Zayn Malik and Zhavia Ward. The other two creators are the duo Justin Paul and Benj Pasek who is popular for working on songs for hit musical films, "La La Land" and "The Greatest Showman". The song from the creation of three kinds and musicians was sung by Naomi Scott while filming the film Aladdin. Naomi sings live for the first part of the song, but in the later parts, it is done lipsync. Many say the spectacular power of the song is similar to "Let It Go" from the movie "Frozen", which is also a Disney film.

The first stanza describes a situation that only wants obedience and submission of a girl.

This shows that there is visible discrimination against these gender differences. The opinions and suggestions of a woman are not considered unimportant to be heard. Whereas gender is a natural thing that no one can change. The sound that should be able to inspire and produce results is only seen as the wind passing by and drowning in thunder. Whereas in a kingdom, organization, group, or the like, one's opinion is very important. It's no longer a matter of who delivers, but what the content of the delivery is and what are the benefits in the future.

(9)

356

In the third stanza, there is the sentence

“you can't keep me quiet” which explains that no one has data to silence the truth. In this sentence, it is aimed at oneself to speak up and take action to produce a change. The sentence is addressed to any individual who is in an unsafe position.

Silence to the truth or revealing the truth is the choice of each individual. Making those choices will change our situation and change long- standing injustices. The word rebellion is clarified in the next stanza, namely the fourth good.

In the fourth stanza, the sentence “Cause I'll breathe” “when they try to suffocate me”

explains the uncomfortable condition. Trying to breathe when suffocated. Because when someone is in an insecure situation, that person will take actions and decisions that are expected to change from the decisions that have been taken. In addition to feeling insecure, in general, a person will start to move and take action when in an uncomfortable condition. The fourth stanza describes a lot of stories. If the first stanza tells of a great force that hit him, causing him to crash and sink. That power is symbolized by waves and sand. The second stanza shows rejection, which is continued in the third stanza.

So the fourth stanza shows the negative reality of the rejection.

Unlike in the first, second, third, and fourth stanzas which explain the attitude of

rebellion, the fifth stanza explains the reasons that make someone a rebel. In the fifth stanza, there is the sentence "Written in stone" which explains that there is a rule or the like that is written and cannot be erased. A measure, a painting, and a curve in a rock that cannot be removed except by the impact of rock. This sentence describes the rules and traditions that have been built and applied for a long time.

Even though not all traditions are true and not all rules always have a good impact on everyone.

Some regulations can harm some other parties.

However, it is from these unfair rules that one creates a rebellious attitude towards these regulations. the fifth stanza is a repetition of the first note but uses different lyrics. The sixth stanza also tells of Princess Jasmine's determination to be motivated to change the absolute rules.

From a grammatical point of view, Speechless songs are dominated by negative phrases, negative realities, and very few metaphors. The words no, impermissible, not silent, and other negative dictions can be easily found. Speechless songs also reflect the reality of destruction, injury, strangulation, confinement, providing situations that threaten the reader. Several metaphors can be seen from the song, such as the metaphor of power which is shown by waves and sand, while the metaphor of determination is shown by taking broken wings.

(10)

357

Psychologically speaking, Speechless narrators are spontaneous, temperamental, and impatient. Because the Speechless song has a diction that it doesn't want, it won't break, it won't, and it won't be silent. From a speechless song that can help in a negative situation only yourself. Therefore it is important to believe in yourself and be brave in expressing opinions, abilities, or many others.

The position of women in a patriarchal society is still seen as marginal and dependent on men. As a weak party, women often experience pros and cons to parties related to gender perspectives from both men and women (Supratman & Puspita, 2019). The scientific community association for women was first present and established in Middelburg, a city in the South of the Netherlands in 1785 (Suhada, 2021). From the women's scientific community associations emerged various kinds of women's associations that continue to grow to this day.

The movements that have been mobilized, show that the presence of feminism in the first wave has been present and will continue in the next waves. From the many movements that have emerged in Europe and America, they also influence the political situation and conditions of the movements in Indonesia. Indonesia also has high-class female figures such as Kartini, Dewi Sartika, CutNyak Dien, and many others.

Discussions related to women's issues in the world always attract public attention and are often discussed through digital media.

Moreover, digital media has become very popular and almost everyone recognizes the media that are usually distributed to share information. Women do have consequences in a society that cannot be contested. Women have reproductive organs physically, pregnant, giving birth, breastfeeding. In addition, women also have roles that are inherent in themselves such as caring for, nurturing, and educating children.

However, among the roles that must be carried out by women, it creates injustice by gender roles and gender differences.

Women are often “silenced” across borders to contexts and roles in which they can speak. As in the 19th, century it was an offense for women to speak in public. When viewed from several social practices, it is often found that there are limitations to the daily context for women. Such as insulting the ability to tell jokes, refusal to acknowledge the opinions given, and many others. therefore the issue of women is always praised by the media to show the injustices felt by women against men. The form of media that plays a very important role in expressing the views felt by women is in the form of films. Fil is one form of mass media that is very influential on people's mindset.

(11)

358

In addition to reflecting the story of discrimination in the film, Aladdin also tells the story of a kingdom or sultanate that still uses the monarchy system, the oldest system used in the world. The monarchy system is a system of government that continues the government by way of hereditary. The monarchy system in Aladdin has an order from a king who is passed on to his first son and brother. This is what causes the warrior Jafar to be greedy for power because he feels he has the power as a leader considering the king only has one only child, a girl. This statement, is also what makes Princess Jasmine try hard so that every opinion and suggestion can be accepted as someone who has insight.

In this modern era, discrimination related to gender has been banned and is almost eradicated. Because now the law also has equal degrees between men and women. Therefore, women have the right to have opinions, give advice, learn, discuss, become prime ministers, and even become leaders. We need to be grateful because the development of science brings many changes to every individual regardless of gender, skin color, ancestry, or others.

CONCLUSION

Alan Menken is a musician who re-created

"Speechless" which was worked on in the film

"Aladdin". Naomi Scott sings a speechless song and plays Princess Jasmine in the film Aladdin, as well as the main character. Princess Jasmine sings the song Speechless as a form of rebellion against the rules and traditions that distinguish a person based on their nature. Traditions and rules that only benefit one party. This song also inspires anyone who feels intimidated to take action. As in some areas that feel oppression indirectly, or discrimination. This song is dedicated by Princess Jasmine to her father who strictly obeys the rules and to the warrior who is greedy for power. In the film, Aladdin reflects a kingdom that uses a monarchy system in government, and only a man can continue to become a king. From the film Aladdin, which uses a monarchical system against its government, there is an element of discrimination. Discrimination is not always clearly shown, but many behaviors or actions show discriminatory attitudes.
