Read an example of an experimental research report. Then, answer these qusetions!
1. What is the problem of this research?
: Measurement and assessment: Determining vocabulary mastery can be challenging.
Researchers may employ different methods, such as standardized tests, vocabulary quizzes, or self-assessment questionnaires. Selecting appropriate measurement tools and ensuring their reliability and validity is essential for accurate results.
Language proficiency levels: Students may have different proficiency levels in English, ranging from beginners to advanced learners. The impact of watching English movies on vocabulary mastery may differ depending on the learners' existing language skills.
Considering language proficiency levels and categorizing participants accordingly can help provide more nuanced findings.
2. What the independent and the dependents variables?
: By examining the correlation between the independent variable (watching English movies) and the dependent variable (student vocabulary mastery), researchers aim to determine if there is a relationship or association between these two variables.
3. What is the hypothesis? How do you think the researchers come to their hypothesis?
: The hypothesis of this study is “there are correlation between watching english movies with students vocabullary mastery”
4. Who is the population and the sample? How was the sample taken?
: The sample of this research is forty students from the second yearsstudents of SMA Ksatria Medan.
5. What is the instrument?
: This researcher instrument isn this research were interview and questioners. The inteviewer is finding out responses for some purposes from another people: the interviewee. While a questioners are only the way to get information from persons. This questioners includes of 20 items that consist of the positive and negative explanation.
The scoring technique of questionare the researcher used was Skala Likert scale type.
6. What is the result of the research?
: The research finding indicate that there is a good relation between students’ activty while seeing English films and the mastery of their vocabulary. The significant coefficient correlation value was found 5.53. it can be concluded that there is good relation between learning media and students’ activity. These facts imply that the students’ activity and use media to increase vocabulary give a useful contribution to enlarge their vocabulary mastery. So that media is effectiveness for increase students’
vocabulary with kind of film are drama, comedy and horror.
