The Effect of Javanese Langgam Music on Stress Levels in the Elderly with Hypertension

ABSTRACT
Hypertension is one of the main cardiovascular risk factors which causing premature death in the world community. Hypertension is dangerous for the elderly. The elderly often unrealized that they are people with hypertension, it is only known after examination of other diseases or organ damage has occurred.
Stress can be a trigger for hypertension, where the relationship between stress and hypertension can lead to erratic blood pressure to rise. This study was to determine the effect of Javanese langgam music on stress level in elderly with hypertension. This study uses quasi experiment. The research design used is One Group Pretest-Posttest with Follow Up. The data collection was a stress questionnaire developed by Larkin's theory. The population in this study were elderly with 60-70 years who lived in the Ria Pembangunan Nursing Home with a total of 62 per sons. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling with several criteria including having hypertension, having moderate to high stress category and was never or rarely listen to Javanese Langgam music. The number of samples in this study were 17 respondents. The data analysis technique of this study used the One-Way ANOVA test. The result of this research is there are effect of Javanese music on stress level in elderly with hypertension with significance value equal to 0.000 (p≤0.05). Based on regression test, Javanese Langgam music influencing the emotional aspect of stress with contribution procentage 41.8%. Javanese Langgam music can be used as an alternative stress management intervention in the elderly with hypertension.
Controlling stress to stabilize blood pressure is very important to prevent more serious damage.
