The increasing importance of English today is not balanced with the ability of the younger generation to master English. To master English, students must master all language skills, reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The foundation of all these skills is mastery of vocabulary. The students have difficulty understanding English due to the lack of their vocabulary. The researcher found that the old learning method might not be more interesting according to the students, so the students were less interested in English. So, there is a need for innovation in teaching and learning activities.
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Find a Match Card as media on students' vocabulary mastery. This study uses a quasi-experimental design. By giving a pre-test at the beginning of the meeting, then applying treatment, and ending by giving a post-test. The population of this study was all eighth-grade students at MTs Putra-Putri Simo Lamongan. Samples were taken from two classes, class VIII C and class VIII D, each class consisting of 30 students. After the data was collected, the researcher analyzed the data using SPSS 25.
After using ANCOVA to analyze the resulting data, this study shows that there is a difference in the mean scores between the pre-test and post-test. Based on the findings of this study, it can be concluded that Find a Match is effective in improving students' vocabulary mastery.
