Analysis Short Story Alter Ego
Short stories are one of the interesting studies to discuss, because they contain many interpretations and messages through imagination that are conveyed in their works of fiction. The short story in this analysis is entitled Alter Ego written by Hugo Correa. From the title, we know the philosophy meanings of alter ego, we can know that the story will tell about two characters or one character who have two different personalities. Another possibility, in case the title is not well known, it could give people an impression that the story might describe or explain the alter ego means or it might the name of the character in the story. The plot is one of the literary elements which is very important. So it will explore in this analysis as well. In this story, it tells about someone who regrets about his life and wants to end his life. Hugo Correa uses an open ending in which the denouement is not revealed. The reader can assume whether the Antonio is dead or not which is unclear. The reader is curious about the ending of this story, and also the writer makes an open ending so that the reader can determine the ending of the story.
The exposition, the author begins the story by describing the robot whom Antonio meet at the beginning. Begins when Antonio received alter ego and Amazed with that thing because Alter ego is robot with body like a real human. We can know in the whole first paragraph that explain how Antonio amazed with the Alter ego. Antonio starts to learn how to use the Alter ego from the basic move like sit, wearing shirt, burning cigarette and learned to use expression, human general move/own motion that we can know in the whole second paragraph. The moment appeared when the instruction said that to master the robot, the user needs to study their own motion.
The rising action begins when Antonio’s mind transferred into the Robot. At this time, he begins to enjoy with him being in the android, he continues to enjoy it more. Begins when Antonio starts using helmet and transfer his Emotion and watch his room with another life. Antonio watch his body and life with the system from the Alter ego. Antonio can feel his real life with the Alter ego that we can read in the third paragraph. As it stated in this short story "Antonio listened to his own voice with satisfaction. He told Alter Ego to walk around the room, take him to the window and lean out. Watching a sunny city under a burning sky sprinkled with helicopters".

The climax occurs when the Alter Ego begins to tell the truth which he has been unable to admit since. From this point, all things are changed not like on his real life, Antonio who previously felt enjoyed with his life now became serious tell about what Antonio did in his real life and says the regrets.
Falling action happens when Alter Ego finished smoking. he then asks Antonio to do the thing Antonio can't do. he then takes a pistol. As it stated in a senteces “Alter Ego finished smoking, put out the cigarette in a theatrical gesture and faced Antonio, pointing at him accusing him. "And now, will your mechanics do what you daren’t do with your own hands?”. Form this point, the final outcome of the conflict is doubt.
The denouement Comes when the robot--through Antonio's actions--takes out a gun and shoots his human body in the head. As Alter Ego stated that "the cycle is closed", and aiming the gun to the Antonio. It stated "Android stands without moving, looking at the quiet helmet. A heavy silence floated in the room. Glass eyes shine. Slowly, Alter Ego turned to the open cup board.
His face hardened. He took the gun, examined it critically and advanced towards the man with strange curiosity, as if walking through the temple during the ceremony".
