ABSTRACT

DIAN HARDIANTI, 2013.The Implementation of Idea-Details Strategy to Improve the Students’ Writing Ability in Descriptive Text (A Classroom Action Research at First Year of SMAN 1 Sungguminasa, Gowa), under the thesis of English Education Department, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Muhammadiyah University of Makassar, guided by H. Bahrun Amin and Nunung Anugrawati.

This study aimed to explain the improvement of the students’writing ability in terms of content and vocabulary of the students‘ in writing descriptive text.

The writer used a classroom action research principle to collect the data that consisted of two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four meetings. The sample was the first year students of SMA Negeri 1 Sungguminasa that consisted of 40 students.

The findings indicated that the implementation of Idea-Details strategy could improve the students' ability in writing descriptive text. Before giving implementation the writer gave the students diagnostic test and the mean score of diagnostic test was 75.61. Then the writer conducted the first cycle and the second cycle, and the result showed that the students' scores in the first and second cycle improved. In the first cycle, the mean score of students was 78.83 ,while the mean score of students in the second cycle was 82.06.
