For students, greater activity, responsibility, the achievement of knowledge about the material through group learning and the creation of projects from the results of the learning process in class are required. For researchers, the results of this study can provide useful experience and learning as future English teachers. The researcher determined the results of using the group discussion method in learning reading comprehension, based on the advantages and disadvantages of the group discussion method.

Through the results of this study, it is expected to provide supporting information in the form of field data, which will later be collected by the next researchers. The systematic discussion is written to provide an understanding of what will be described in the research thesis and to understand the information conveyed.

Theoretical Background

Isolating the steps gives the impression that the process is mechanical or can be reduced to a recipe. It is a text that relates to or involves transcending the boundaries of the material presented by the author. Using the lecture method is easy to improve with limited time, equipment, and availability of study materials.

When using the question and answer method, both teachers and students are equally active. Therefore, the teacher must have great enthusiasm and adequate mastery of the material so that the class can. This experimental method is to try to do something and observe the process and results of the experiment.

In this method, however, the course of the game is regulated by the teacher as facilitator. A method can be said to be one of the means that goes beyond achieving the goal. The goal to be achieved in the learning process is the level of success of the learning.28 Meanwhile, according to Nana Sudjana, the learning method is a method used by the teacher when interacting with students during teaching.

In the teaching and learning process, the group learning method is one of the methods that uses a group approach.

Previous Research Findings

Reading Comprehension: A Descriptive Qualitative Study”. The design of the study was descriptive qualitative research. This study aimed to discover and see how the guided reading approach can achieve students' reading comprehension. The researcher found that some steps of the guided reading approach contributed greatly to students' achievement of reading comprehension, even though the other steps contained weaknesses. However, these other steps acted as a bridge to move on to the next step in the guided reading approach to achieve the indicator of reading comprehension.

The steps contributed a lot to reaching the students' reading comprehension were; picture walking, predicting, discussing vocabulary, discussion text features, activating background knowledge, monitoring, asking questions and listening to students' reading, feedback, strategies, assessment and discussion. The third previous study was research conducted by Agus Rahmad in 2018 titled "Small Group Discussion Strategy Towards Students' Reading Comprehension of SMA Negeri 11 Bulukumba". The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the Small Group Discussion Strategy in improving student reading comprehension in Grade XI students at SMA Negeri 11 Bulukumba.

Based on the research findings and discussion, the researcher draws the conclusion that the use of small group discussion strategies in improving the reading comprehension of students of grade XI of SMA Negeri 11 Bulukumba is effective. The fourth previous study was research conducted by Gendis Nadira Dwiningtiyas, Dedi Sofyan and Hilda Puspita in 2020 entitled 'Teachers' Strategies In Teaching Reading Comprehension'. The strategies included brainstorming, reading aloud, and asking for specific information. The strategies used were very effective in teaching reading comprehension at that school.

The relevant previous study was the research conducted by Rizal Arisman, Irda Sriyanti and Haryanti in 2020 entitled "Using Small Group Discussions to Improve Students' Achievement in Reading Narrative Text. This research concludes that there was a significant difference in reading achievement between the classroom taught using the Small Group Discussion method and the classroom taught using the conventional method. This research design uses the same descriptive qualitative research design... have different variables, namely Guided Reading Approach and Group Discussion.

The researcher found that some steps in a guided reading approach contributed greatly to achieving students' reading comprehension. The result showed that the strategies used were very effective in teaching reading comprehension at the school in question. This research concludes that there was a significant difference in reading performance between the class taught using the Small Group Discussion method and the class taught using the conventional method.

The second question the researcher asked the teacher about how the teacher views teaching reading comprehension using the group discussion method. Muhadi's view on the application of the group discussion method in students' reading comprehension. The third question the researcher asked the teacher about how the teacher sees the advantages of the group discussion method.

Not only the advantages, the application of the group discussion method also has some disadvantages. The fourth question, the researcher asked the teacher how the teacher saw the disadvantages of the group discussion method. The fifth question, the researcher asked the teacher if the group discussion method can increase the students' activity in the classroom.

Muhadi's perceptions related to students' activity in the application of group discussion method for reading comprehension. In the seventh question, the researcher asked the teacher how often to use the group discussion method in learning.
