By reciting bismillahirrahmanirrahim, praise the presence of Allah SWT so that the author can complete his thesis entitled: Use of jigsaw puzzle technique to improve the reading comprehension of students at SMAN 3 Bulukumba. Andi Nirwati, MM.M.Pd, Head Master of SMAN 3 Bulukumba, students and teacher, Roskati, S.P. who gave me time to research in SMAN 3 Bulukumba in Class XI IPA 3, especially for Class XI IPA 3 who sacrificed their time and activities to be the subject of this research. The purpose of this research was to find out the effectiveness in reading comprehension using the Jigsaw technique and to determine the possible positive responses in reading comprehension after using the Jigsaw technique in the eleventh grade of SMAN 3 Bulukumba.

The scope in this research was focused on students' reading comprehension in terms of literal and interpretive. The researcher found that the result of pre-test was 64.10 and the mean score of post-test was 79.91, the improvement of post-test was 24.66. In addition, the statistical calculation described that puzzle technique was effective in improving students' reading comprehension. Based on the result analysis, the researcher concluded that teaching comprehension through Jigsaw Technique can improve students' reading comprehension.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keefektifan pemahaman membaca dengan menggunakan teknik Jigsaw dan untuk mengetahui respon positif dalam pemahaman membaca setelah menggunakan teknik Jigsaw pada siswa kelas XI SMAN 3 Bulukumba. Berdasarkan analisis hasil, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa pengajaran pemahaman dengan menggunakan teknik Jigsaw dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa.

Therefore, the teacher must provide techniques in reading comprehension and through this technique students can be interested in understanding a reading text. This happened because many factors that affect students' reading comprehension such as vocabulary, word meanings and grammar. Considering explanation above, the researcher formulates this research under the title “The Use Of Jigsaw Technique to Improve Students’ Reading Comprehension at SMAN 3 Bulukumba.

Based on the background above, the researcher formulates the following question as "Does puzzle technique improve the students' reading comprehension in terms of literal and interpretive?". The benefits for teachers as a result of this research can contribute to enriching their ways of teaching reading comprehension and making students more interested in the learning process. The benefits for students is to improve students' reading comprehension and can give them information how to improve their reading comprehension through Jigsaw technique.

Benefits for researcher can get the results of increasing students' reading comprehension and researcher can find out information about the use of jigsaw technique. This research aims to improve students' reading comprehension through Jigsaw technique that focuses on literal and interpretive in reading comprehension.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Some Pertinent Ideas

The readers try to arrange certain data or activities of the essayist in the content or section. At this level, teachers can ask students to find information and ideas that are explicitly stated in the text. Very often the writer starts with supporting evidence and puts the main idea in the last sentence.

So the main idea can be stated at the beginning, middle or end of the paragraph. According to Slavin, the jigsaw puzzle is one of the work gathering or useful exercises that are suitable in showing understanding respect. Encouraging reading would be simpler, because in this way we require the dynamics of young people in lessons.

From the above explanations, it can be concluded that the puzzle is an exercise for underestimaters, divided into a few collections, which are important in showing the understanding of perception and solving the question in understanding appreciation. In the form of a puzzle, it is useful to note that there are collections of source and master collections.

Technique of Data Analysis

Finding the percent improvement in students' reading comprehension in the pre-test and post-test by applying the following formula:. D = mean of post-test between-test differences ΣD2 = sum of squares of between-test differences. pre-test and post-test. The Jigsaw technique would be successful in improving students' reading comprehension whenever students reach 75 (KKM score) and students will be categorized as failing whenever their score is below 75.

FINDING AND DISCUSSION

Discussion

Based on the data analysis in the previous section, it appeared that the frequency and percentage of students in the pre-test and post-test were different. The result of the pre-test of the students showed that none of the students was excellent, very good, good, bad or very bad in the pre-test. While the data analysis of the students' post-test showed that none of them were excellent, fair, bad or very bad.

The data showed that the students' pre-test was classified as fair because most of the students were fair during the student period. The improvement in students' reading ability can be seen from the statistical analysis that the t-test value was 8.16, greater than the t-table value 2.093. The data shows that the reading skills of the students are significantly different before and after the treatments. In connection with improving the reading comprehension of students, it would be better if the students themselves were given the opportunity to practice their reading comprehension.

The effectiveness of the Jigsaw technique in improving the reading comprehension of eighth grade students of SMP Islam Parung.
