ABSTRACT

MUHAJIR MUHAMMAD, 2016. Improving the Students’ Speaking Fluency Through English Speech Training (An Experimental Research at the Eighth Grade Students’ of Smp Negeri 1 Bontonompo). Thesis, English Education Departement, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Muhammadiyah University Makassar. Guided by Abd. Muin and Yasser Mallapiang. This research aimed to explain how improving the fluency and accuracy of speaking the students’ through English speech training. The researcher used a pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test. The population was the eighth grade students’ of Smp Negeri 1 Bontonompo in academic year 2016/2017. The sample was taken by purposive sampling technique and the total number of sample was 20 students’. It employed observation and speaking test as the instrument. This research findings indicated that using of Speaking Fluency Through English Speech Training could increase the students’ speaking ability focus on fluency and accuracy. It was proved by the students’ mean score in pre- test 52.75 and post-test was 68.6. It showed that the students’ speaking ability in post-test was higher than pre-test. After calculating the difference between matched pair (D), it was found that the result of t-test value was 6.65. By applying the level of significant (p) = 0.05 and the degree of freedom (df) = 20-1 = 19, it was found that the result of t-table was 1.729. Therefore, the t-test was greater than t-table (6.65 > 1.729 ) and Null hypothesis was rejected and Alternative hypothesis was accepted. It means that there was a significant difference in the students’ speaking ability before and after being taught by using English Speech Training
