Objective

This chapter explains everything about the company, since its founding, its development and current circumstances.

Company History

History of PT Pertamina (Persero)

At first, Pertamina has seven refinery units (RU), then RU I which is located in Pangkalan Brandan Sumatera was closed in 2007 due to low production capacity, so the margin is very low while the required capital is very high large that causes the loss of the company. Illustration of refinery units owned by Pertamina and capacity in MBSD (metric barrel flow day) shown in Figure 2.1.

History of PT. Pertamina (Persero) RU V Balikpapan

In 1966, Pertamina, then Permina, bought the refinery and in 1980 built Kilang Balikpapan II. This refinery unit has a capacity of up to 200 MBSD, which is divided into two complex process units, which are the hydroskimming complex (HSC) and the hydrocracking complex. (HCC).

Operation and Manufacturing Function

This function is responsible for providing maintenance services and planning maintenance scheduling for refinery equipment. This function is responsible for providing service maintenance for mechanical, rotary, electrical and instrument equipment that supports refinery operations.

Engineering and Development Function

This function is responsible for planning and scheduling maintenance service for mechanical equipment, rotating, electrical and supporting instruments to support refinery operating capability. Led by a manager, this function is divided into three sections where each section is led by a section head.

Business Process

Business Process of PT Pertamina (Persero) RU V Balikpapan

This chapter will explain the overview of the company's system such as the business process, the production system, as well as the production facilities. In carrying out the business process, this company has been influenced by internal and external environmental factors such as vision and mission, company regulations and policies, changes in market conditions, weather, as well as government regulations. Business Process in the Refinery Planning and Optimization Function This function has the responsibility for the refinery process to be maximally planned.

Business Process in Refinery Planning and Optimization Function This function has responsibility to planning refinery process to have maximum

Like any other company, system manufacturing in RU V Balikpapan is a resource processing activity to obtain the required products as a result. This means that this company has the right to determine the products, supply materials and carry out the whole process, then the customer purchases products with the deal specification and price.

Raw Material

Terminal Lawe Lawe is the area used to hold crude oil owned by PT Pertamina (Persero) RU V Balikpapan. SF-05 is a hydrocarbon product used as a base oil in the Oil Based Mud (OBM) drilling mud mix. In liquid form, LPG is easier to transfer in tanks or pipes.

In the industrial field, LPG is used as a fuel in the food industry, the ceramics industry, as well as fuel for forklift operations. Also, LPG can be used as a fuel in aerosol industries and as an environmental refrigerant. RON is determined through the variable ratio component test by filling the car with fuel in regular condition.

Production Process

Production Process in Kilang Balikpapan I

This unit then has the function of removing the water content of the crude oil until it is less than 0.5% of its weight. Initially, the suspended crude oil flows through the mine line and a demulsifier is added to it. The crude oil then flew to the flare through a wear stripper to release the contained gas.

After that, the crude oil is poured into the stabilizer to release the remaining contained gas. This unit has the function of reducing the level of oil composition, as well as other components, until meeting the safety standard that is set by the government before it is thrown into the sea. In this unit, the waste is discharged into the settling zone to separate the oil component using the oil grater and buffet.

Production Process in Kilang Balikpapan II

The process in this unit is vacuum separation with the pressure 40 mmHg to lower the boiling point. This unit removes the catalyst poison in the naphtha which will enter the platform unit. This unit is used to process mixed gas which flows into the fuel gas system and is mixed with the exhaust gas from the other units before it is used as fuel gas.

The heavy fraction treated in this unit is HVGO, which comes from HVU II and HVU III. This unit processes the gas into LPG and fuel gas, after which the rest will be fed into the flare gas stack. The feed used in this unit is low pressure separator (LPS) off gas from the HCU.

Production Facilities

In this chapter it will be explained about the student's scope of works, responsibilities and authority to do works. Task given to the students will be explained, include methodology and the results of the task are also explained in this chapter.

Scope of Works

Daily processing planning for refinery units, also coordinating with the related function to run the process business smoothly and help guarantee refinery capacity to achieve maximum margin. Coordination of Refinery Planning and Optimization function regarding allocation of crude oil and intermediate material.

Responsibilities and Authorities

The task given by the consultant is to provide additional features using the solution in their excel program that has been used by their staff. Their excel worksheet was modified which enabled them to enter data faster and more accurately. The program given for this practical assignment is an excel program for the simulation of mixing in Terminal Lawe Lawe.

This program is used to determine the mixing percentage from three tanks or even four tanks. Currently, the staff will manually set the percentage until it approaches the percentage result of the specification for light, medium and heavy crude oil, the excel program will calculate the percentage result. With additional features, we hope that the blending percentage can be calculated automatically.

Methodology

Existing Condition

The tank used is entered on the third line starting from column E and written as "101-T-1B" for example. Crude compositions in the reservoir are entered in the “CRUDE” column and are entered as the initial crude oil, such as “ARJ” for Arjuna and “BEK” for Bekapai. Entering the composition mixing process for 2 tanks In the fourth row, columns E and F are entered as percentage mixing for each tank.

The red font in the right column represents the result of the simulation and the black font represents the desired goal. After columns N and P are filled, it is automatically calculated as the mixed crude oil and displayed in column S. The result in column S is then manually copied to column G so that the percentage calculation can be performed. same as the previous scenario.

Current Condition

These features use the visual basic application (vba) which is available in the Ms.Excel menu. This table is the sum of the mixture percentage compositions for each scenario, which result should be 100% in the scenario used. In the mixing simulation for 2 tanks, the columns used are E and F, so the previously mentioned syntax is intended to automatically clear the data in column G.

This button also uses the solver syntax, which you can see in Figure 4.10. The data used as the objective function is the data in the "Persenane Mixing" table, which is presented in cell T26, where the value must be equal to 100, and the mixing percentage in columns E and F is used as a changing variable. This can be seen in the SolverOk syntax, where SetCell is supposed to define the target cell as the target function, and the changing variable is specified in the ByChange syntax.

Constraints are set using SolverAdd and relation number 3 represents the "greater than or equal" relation and number 2 represents the "equal to" relation, this is adjusted using the relation sequence available in the solver add-on. ins as shown in Figure 4.11. When you click the "Solver 2 Tanki" button, the mixing percentage will be automatically calculated with the percentage of the near-target result, and the data in column G will be automatically deleted.
