What is Profession ?

A profession is a vocation founded upon specialized

educational training, the purpose of which is to supply

disinterested objective counsel and service to others, for a direct and definite compensation,

wholly apart from expectation of other business gain.

Occupation, practice, or vocation requiring mastery of a complex set of knowledge and skills through formal education and/or practical experience. Every organized profession (accounting, law,

medicine, etc.) is governed by its respective professional body

Engineering is the profession in which a knowledge of the

mathematical and natural sciences gained by study, experience and practice is applied with judgement to develop ways to

utilize, economically, the materials and forces of nature for the benefit of

mankind

Sebagai seorang profesional, insinyur harus memiliki kompetensi dan latar belakang profesi yang berasal dari sebuah proses pendidikan maupun pelatihan yang khusus dan disamping itu pula harus memiliki semangat pengabdian didalam melaksanakan suatu kegiatan atas dasar “panggilan” profesi (profesionalisme)

Engineering Activities as a “Business Project”

• Didalam menerapkan kepakaran dan keahliannya, seorang insinyur acapkali terlibat dalam persoalan- persoalan bisnis yang lebih mengedepankan aspek komersial yang mengarah pada pencapaian “profit”

yang sebesar-besarnya

• Seorang insinyur sering berhadapan dengan dilema etika dilihat dari aspek individu manusia (personal

ethics) dan aspek bisnis (business/ professional ethics)

• Sebagai sebuah profesi yang memiliki tanggung jawab besar bagi kemaslahatan manusia; penerapan

kepakaran dan keahlian insinyur haruslah tetap

mengindahkan norma, budaya, adat, moral

dan etika (profesi) yang berlaku baku.

Engineering Ethics (Professional Ethics)

Etika adalah hal pokok yang

menyangkut perilaku manusia yang bersifat moral, meskipun pelanggarannya tidak dapat membuat seseorang terkena hukuman penjara, namun mampu memberi pengaruh yang kuat demi kebaikan sesama manusia.

Etika Profesi adalah suatu ikatan moral, yang mendorong tumbuhnya sikap untuk melayani dan mendahulukan kepentingan kemanusiaan dan kemasyarakatan yang melampaui ikatan kewajiban kepada pemberi tugas dan kepentingan pribadi.

Engineering ethics is the field of applied ethics and system of moral principles that apply to the practice of engineering

Kode Etik adalah kumpulan aturan yang disusun oleh masyarakat profesi untuk melindungi para anggotanya dari tindakan yang dapat merugikan atau membahayakan anggota lain, pemberi tugas

atau masyarakat dan kemanusiaan.

Menurut ABET yang didukung oleh IISE dan asosiasi lainnya, Engineering Code of Ethics adalah:

• The Fundamental Principles

Engineers uphold and advance the integrity, honor and dignity of the engineering profession by:

▪ Using their knowledge and skill for the enhancement of human welfare;

▪ Being honest and impartial, and serving with fidelity the public, their employers and clients;

▪ Striving to increase the competence and prestige of the engineering profession; and

▪ Supporting the professional and technical societies of their disciplines.

Engineering Code of Ethics (3)

• The Fundamental Canons

▪ Engineers shall hold paramount the safety, health and welfare of the public in the performance of their professional duties.

▪ Engineers shall perform services only in the areas of their competence.

▪ Engineers shall issue public statements only in an objective and truthful manner.

▪ Engineers shall act in professional matters for each employer or client as faithful agents or trustees, and shall avoid conflicts of interest.

▪ Engineers shall build their professional reputation on the merit of their services and shall not compete unfairly with others.

▪ Engineers shall associate only with reputable persons or organizations.

▪ Engineers shall continue their professional development

throughout their careers and shall provide opportunities for the professional development of those engineers under their

supervision

Menurut Persatuan Insinyur Indonesia

PERTAMA, PRINSIP- PRINSIP DASAR :

1. Mengutamakan keluhuran budi.

2. Menggunakan pengetahuan dan kemampuannya untuk kepentingan

kesejahteraan umat manusia.

3. Bekerja secara sungguh- sungguh untuk

kepentingan

masyarakat, sesuai dengan tugas dan tanggung jawabnya.

4. Meningkatkan kompetensi dan

martabat berdasarkan keahlian profesional keinsinyuran.

KEDUA, TUJUH TUNTUTAN SIKAP :

1. Insinyur Indonesia senantiasa mengutamakan keselamatan, kesehatan dan kesejahteraan Masyarakat.

2. Insinyur Indonesia senantiasa bekerja sesuai dengan kompetensinya.

3. Insinyur Indonesia hanya menyatakan pendapat yang dapat dipertanggung jawabkan.

4. Insinyur Indonesia senantiasa menghindari terjadinya pertentangan kepentingan dalam tanggung jawab tugasnya.

5. Insinyur Indonesia senantiasa membangun reputasi profesi berdasarkan kemampuan masing-masing.

6. Insinyur Indonesia senantiasa memegang teguh kehormatan, integritas dan martabat profesi.

7. Insinyur Indonesia senantiasa

mengembangkan kemampuan profesionalnya.

Professional Organization of IE in the World

The Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers

(IISE), formerly the Institute of Industrial Engineers, is a

professional society dedicated solely to the support of the

industrial engineering profession and individuals involved

with improving quality and productivity.

• Society of Industrial Engineers (1917)

• American Institute of Industrial Engineers (AIIE) (1948)

• Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) (1981)

• Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) (2016)

➢ to align the association with the changing scope of

the profession that, while keeping its industrial

base, has seen more industrial and systems

engineers (ISEs) working with large-scale,

integrated systems in a variety of sectors

• IISE, the world's largest professional society

dedicated solely to the support of the profession, is an international, nonprofit association that

provides leadership for the application,

education, training, research, and development of industrial and systems engineering

of industrial and system engineering are about

knowledge, skill and attitude of industrial and

system engineers to conduct their profession

Functions of IISE (2)

IISEs Board of Trustees (BOT) in 2010 initiated development of Body of Knowledge (BoK) of IE.

A draft version of the BoK created by a team of volunteers was

sent to the divisions and societies in 2013 to collect their input and review

In 2015, an IE BoK Task Force was created to develop

recommendations for processes to use in the maintenance, revision, and dissemination of the IE BoK

In 2016, IE BoK is approved which consist of 12 knowledge areas

The Industrial Engineering Body of Knowledge (IEBoK) is composed of 12 knowledge areas.

The IISE BOT is responsible for approving changes to the IEBoK governance structure. The governance structure is composed of the Governing Board and the Content Review Board.

The governing board makes policy for the IEBoK maintenance, updates, and dissemination

The content review board is comprised of subject experts who review and approve all new content and revision to the IEBoK

Organisasi Profesi Teknik Industri di Indonesia (1)

• Badan Kejuruan Teknik Industri, Persatuan Insinyur Indonesia

(BKTI-PII) is a nonprofit association that supports the profession based on the Body of Knowledge of Industrial and Systems Engineering.

• Currently, our activities are directed to carry out a cooperation in synergy with BKSTI (Badan Kerjasama

Penyelenggara Pendidikan Tinggi Teknik Industri) and ISTMI (Ikatan Sarjana Teknik Industri dan Managemen

Industri) on 9 programs.
