Abstract

A green campus in the context of environmental preservation is not only a campus environment filled with green trees, but the meaning of a green campus is the extent to which campus residents can utilize campus environmental resources effectively and efficiently. The research conducted, aims to analyze what policies have been carried out by Narotama University Surabaya to implement a green campus using the UI GreenMetric 2019 assessment. This research method uses primary data which is data taken directly by researchers and secondary data which is data taken from third parties. The total value of the Narotama University Surabaya green campus according to UI GreenMetric 2019 is 3,550 points. The value is only 35.5% of the maximum value (10,000 points), that value. Based on the assessment that has been carried out, several new policies are needed by improving programs in each category and green campus indicators by looking at the ability of Narotama University Surabaya to be following campus conditions. A new policy is needed to increase points in each category. These programs include the use of energy-efficient equipment, the use of renewable energy sources, green building, emission-free vehicles, and the availability of a sustainability website.

1. Introduction

The concept of green building is a system used to measure the feasibility of development to achieve environmental sustainability. The Green Campus concept is one of the achievements of Green Building which has begun to be implemented by many campuses in the world and from the existence of Green Campus activities can change the habits of the campus population to continue to carry out environmental conservation activities at the University. In Mayona's research, the green campus is a concept that prioritizes sustainable and sustainable campus management by paying attention to environmental aspects to minimize and anticipate various environmental problems. Indicators of the creation of a green campus concept include the existence of campus management policies that are oriented towards environmental management, maintenance of cleanliness and environmental comfort, the existence of reforestation to achieve the ideal proportion of green open spaces, efforts to save water, electricity and paper usage, the use of environmentally friendly transportation systems, the existence of waste management, the availability of environmentally friendly buildings, as well as the concern and involvement of all elements of the academic community in a culture of environmental care (Mayona &

Fernanda, 2019). In this study, researchers wanted to find out whether Narotama University had implemented green campus activities according to UI GreenMetric 2019 and wanted to find out how many points the campus got with these calculations. UI GreenMetric is a ranking system managed by the University of Indonesia to measure the sustainability of a campus. The UI GreenMetric 2020 assessment is based on three pillars, namely the environment, economy, and social with the weight of the assessment indicators consisting of Setting and Infrastructure (15%), Energy and Climate Change (21%), Waste Management (18%), Water ( 10%), Transportation (18%), and Education and Research (18%) (Universitas Indonesia, 2019), with a total score of 10,000 points.

2. Research Methods

The research was carried out for 1 (one) month in May 2021 at Narotama University Surabaya. The type of data collection used in this study is primary data and secondary data. Primary data collection was carried out by looking at the condition of the campus directly, taking pictures of the campus landscape using drones, and conducting interviews with each division head of each campus to strengthen the secondary data obtained.

Secondary data collection is done by obtaining the data needed by researchers through each division to get a green campus score according to UI GreenMetric 2019.

3.1. Setting and Infrastructure (SI)

The percentage of the value of the infrastructure arrangement category on the overall green campus indicator according to UI GreenMetric 2019 is 15% (1500 points). The purpose of this category is to assess the general description of the placement of campus layouts in a green environment (Universitas Indonesia, 2019). The value obtained by Narotama University in this category is 350 points.

Meanwhile, the indicators for SI 2, SI 5, and SI 6 are indicators that have not yet received points in the structuring and infrastructure (SI) category.
