Indeed, here is an organization that is critical to the maintenance of America's food factory in the future.” In 1965, at the age of 17, Bench was selected in the second round of the pro draft by Cincinnati.

While studying ag economics at Iowa State University, he was appointed by the President of the United States to serve as one of six worldwide Peace Corps evaluators. The only person on the council with an agricultural background, Dwight immediately began an intensive investigation to learn as much as possible about the Peace Corps' agricultural effectiveness. First, piles of congressional hearings were examined to get a sense of the history of the Peace Corps since its inception in 1961.

Dwight then attended (and still does) monthly meetings in Washington to visit with high-level Peace Corps and State Department officials. After making the appropriate official visits to Africa, Dwight traveled to each country looking at Peace Corps agricultural projects. Dwight Seegmiller, second from left, a presidential appointee to the National Volunteer Service Advisory Council is shown on his Peace Corps tour.

Peace Corps helps in this area by developing pit silos filled with corn or fodder to feed the livestock in the dry season.

VALUABLE COUPON

The joke page in the October-November issue really gets to me: "The farmers on the opening day of deer season." It's definitely not funny. We have enough problems with people wanting to have our guns taken away and stop hunting without your help. In response to a letter from Mark Shain, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which was included in the "Mailbag" of your October-November 1975 issue; I will send a press kit.

In your October/November issue, you published an article titled "Are JuniorMarket Livestock Shows Obsolete?" I disagree with what the writer said about the shows. He thinks shows are pointless and sales are a big deal. In my opinion, the first questions after a presentation are not, "How many sales do you think it will bring in?" but, "Is he really the best here?" or comment like "Hede- serve for a champion!" At our county fair, the sale is barely valid until the day of the sale.

I strongly disagreed with the article, especially the part about show sales, in which he said, "Show officials felt that young people would face financial difficulties if they had to sell to commercial outlets."

Consequently, an attempt is being made to restructure agriculture in the common market countries. IT WAS the first surgery I had ever seen. 28. transfer and distribution of embryos in North America of registrable calves of the Murray-Grey, Guernsey and Holstein breeds.

On the twenty-first day of the same estrus cycle, the cow will be fertile (during heat). On the fifth and sixth day after insemination, the veterinarian examines the cow by rectal palpation. At this stage, one "corpus lutea" will appear on the surface of the ovary for each embryo present in the uterus. Special. a sterile medium is injected into the lower part of the uterus, flushing the microscopic embryos from each of the two fallopian tubes into a collection vessel.

Uf) at the birth of the calves, blood tests are done and the blood groups are compared with that of the bull, the donor cow and the recipient cows.

METRIC CONVERSION RATIOS

WHEN you are in the middle of the busy working season next summer, any kind of tractor breakdown or poor performance can be very costly. If you continue, the oil level in the transmission housing may become so high that the oil ends up on the brake drums and destroys the brake linings. This removes the dirt particles in the liquid and removes the Wu'er formed by condensation.

This will only lead to the need for a complete overhaul of the hydraulic system. You will probably need to clean the rust from the inside of the cooling system. Running the tractor over rough ground will push the battery hard enough to break the case if it is not properly secured.

Impressed by his knowledge of the business and the success of his initial attempts, FmHA officials did not decline.

The charge consisted of 50 wood ducks from the Game and Parks Commission and was used to stock the area as part of a commission-sponsored wildlife education program. They have been placed in the area so that the ducks can nest in them and their eggs can remain protected. Ray Spangler is setting up one of the nests that the FFA hopes will keep wood ducks in the area.

Members of the Mora FFA Chapter, Minnesota, were involved in a service project to assist the Department of Natural Resources Division of Fish and Game during the past deer season. Like cattle, deer only have incisors on the lower jaw, and . all eight front teeth can be harvested quickly by cutting about 1Va inch from the front of the jaw. Since taxidermists no longer use the skulls in mounting heads.. they use styrofoam molds—no harm. resulting from the removal of the teeth and part of the jaw.

Hunters were informed that donating their deer's teeth would help the Division of Fish and Wildlife determine: 1) the number of deer harvested per year; age group, 2) the number of fawns produced this year, and 3) the deer production in their hunting area compared to other areas. tion is gathered by sectioning the roots of the teeth and examining and testing the sections.

Community spokespeople have expressed a desire to work better with the U.S., and that seems to be in the best interest of the American farmer. As common market countries become more self-sufficient in agricultural production or seek a better balance of trade by buying food from other countries that need their manufactured goods, these actions will certainly be reflected in the United States (Continued from page 28). through trial and error.
