The idea was already discussed in 1934 and some wanted the school to be part of the national convention; others wanted a separate time and place. Ross reported that an additional six acres of land adjacent to the property could be had for $3,500 more, and that one of Washington's old grist mills had been restored by the Virginia Conservation Commission on property south of the camp. After the war, there were never enough members who used the facilities of the national camp to make it.
In 1948, PFA's Land Supply Service was located in one of the camps. It wasn't long before the growth of Supply Service created the need for more.

FFA members to fulfill their jobs "front-on". He said he was aware that interest was high among FFAs everywhere in public speaking contests. The afternoon session included the presentation of some of the over 2,500 awards presented at the convention. 34;I firmly believe in the role of the Future Farmers of America," he said, noting that agricultural vocational training helps provide the workforce and leadership that "will stand firm for our part in the inspiring task."
In another presentation, Distinguished Service Citations for many years of service to FFA and vocational agriculture were awarded to the U.S. Extension Service. In a highlight of the evening's program, convention attendees witnessed the premiere performance of a new FFA.
FFA FOUNDATION
The National Chapter Safety Awards, which recognize chapters for participation in safety projects in their communities, were presented to 106 FFA chapters. They were brought to the convention by the FFA Alumni Association, which hosted them at a breakfast in their honor Thursday morning. Panels of judges representing education, business and industry selected the national winners listed on page 26 of this issue.
At the Thursday morning session, attendees saw the National Citation, the highest award in the FFA's community development program. The Star Farmer and Star Agribusinessman ofAmerica awards are recognized as the nation's top awards for young men and women becoming established in the agriculture and agribusiness industry.

Six new national officers were elected unanimously at the end of Friday's session (see page 12). Parents and FFA advisors of the retiring officers were recognized and the six 1977-78 national officers were installed in their new offices. Bill Scott, chairman of the center's vocational agriculture department, explained the integral role of FFA. Acorn High School is a country school located in the heart of the Quachita Mountains in extreme western Arkan-. The money made from this sale was invested in the purchase of four eight-week-old golden pigs for the start of the chain.

The starting point for using this theme for most local chapters will be during National FFA WEEK - February. Some items do not have a date or mention of FFA WEEK and are especially useful throughout the year. Chapters do many unusual things in celebration of their National FFA Week, such as the tractor drive-in held by the Dover-Eyota, Minnesota, FFA.
