Abstract

In this paper, a composite electrode was prepared from a mixture of activated carbon derived from precarbonization of cassava peel (CP) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The activated carbon was produced by pyrolysis process using ZnCl as an activation agent. A N adsorption-desorption analysis for the sample indicated that the BET surface area of the activated carbon was 1336 m g . Difference percentage of CNTs of 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% with 5% of PVDF binder were added into CP based activated carbon in order to fabricate the composite electrodes. The morphology and structure of the composite electrodes were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The SEM image observed that the distribution of CNTs was homogeneous between carbon particles and the XRD pattern shown the amorphous structure of the sample. The electrodes were fabricated for supercapacitor cells with 316L stainless steel as current collector and 1 M sulfuric acid as electrolyte. An electrochemical

characterization was performed by using an electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) method using a Solatron 1286 instrument and the addition of CNTs revealed to improve the resistant and capacitive properties of

supercapacitor cell. © 2013 AIP Publishing LLC.

Preface

It is great pleasure for us to deliver our welcome to Padjadjaran International Physics Symposium 2013 and to Universitas Padjadjaran in Jatinangor, West Java, Indonesia. This symposium is organized by Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran. It is also supported by Indonesian Physical Society (HFI), Indonesian Optical Society (InOS), and Materials Research Society Indonesia (MRS-id).

This symposium is aimed at enhancing communications among the researchers in physics and its related fields to their contribution on environmental and energy conservations. About 100 papers are presented in a wide range of physics and its applications for environmental and energy conservations, including Material Sciences, Instrumentations, Geophysics, and Theoretical Physics. We expect that this symposium will become a forum where the researchers in the world can meet to discuss the results of their research and to promote some research collaborations between some researchers in Indonesia and other countries.

The world especially Indonesia is waiting the real contribution of physics on environmental and energy conservations. We hope it will appear very soon in the near future.

All members of the commitees would like to thank the Rector of Universitas Padjadjaran, the Dean of Faculty Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, the Head of Department of Physics, Universitas Padjadjaran, advisory commitee, participants and to all who have contributed to organize this Padjadjaran International Physics Symposium 2013.

https://aip.scitation.org/doi/10.1063/1.4820290 2/3

ABSTRACT

A low pressure spray pyrolysis (LPSP) process was applied to synthesize crystalline lithium cobalt oxide as a battery cathode material via a liquid route. The effects of temperature and pressure of reactor on the

synthesized particles characteristics were systematically investigated.

Reactor temperatures of 800, 1000 and 1200 °C with pressures of 760 and 300 Torr were applied as operating conditions. The

characterizations results show that the synthesized particles were highly crystalline and nearly spherical in shape. The results concluded that the low-pressure spray pyrolysis method has ability in control of particles morphology, crystallinity and atomic lithium-to-cobalt ratio.

ABSTRACT

We have studied the templating effect of bis(1,2,5-thiadiazolo)-p-

quinobis(1,3-dithiole) (BTQBT) on structure and performance of organic solar cells having the multilayer of ITO/BTQBT/metal-free

phthalocyanine -dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-

phenanthroline (BCP)/Al. Orientation of molecules has been studied by infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy. The angle between the molecular plane and the substrate surface was 82° for an

sample, whereas 32 ° for an sample.

The angle depends on the materials below the layer. The short- circuit current was increased from 3.97 to 5.45 mA/cm by the insertion of the BTQBT layer. This result probably originates from the change in orientation of molecules. The power conversion efficiency of the

solar cell with the structure was 1.4

%, whereas that of a cell without the BTQBT layer was 1.1 %. The efficiency was also enhanced by the insertion of the BTQBT layer.

ABSTRACT

High Energy Physics explores the most fundamental questions about the nature of the universe, e.g., basic building blocks of matter and energy, existence of the smallest sub-atomic particles, dark matter, dark energy etc. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the most powerful accelerator on earth located near Geneva, Switzerland. It recreates the conditions just after the Big Bang by colliding two proton beams head-on at very high energy every 25-50 nanosecond. With the recent discovery of Higgs boson, the LHC is firmly marching on to explore the TeV energy scale.

https://aip.scitation.org/doi/10.1063/1.4820272 2/3

ABSTRACT

We review infrared and Raman analyses of thin films of organic

semiconductors used for active layers in organic solar cells. We present Raman study of blend (bulk heterojunction) films of regioregular poly(3- hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and [6,6]-phenyl- -butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM). The contents of the crystalline region of P3HT in the blend films prepared by various methods were estimated by Raman spectroscopy.

Temperature dependence of photoinduced infrared absorption from a P3HT:PCBM blend film gives the activation energy of the recombination of photoinduced positive and negative carriers. The activation energies for P3HT:PCBM blend films with various PCBM contents were obtained. It has been demonstrated that infrared and Raman spectroscopy is useful for evaluating thin films of P3HT:PCBM blend films used for organic solar cells.

ABSTRACT

A high quality amorphous silicon (a-Si) nanostructures has grown experimentally to study the origin of light emission and the quantum confinement effect in a-Si. The quantum confinement effect increases the band gap of material as the size of quantum structure decreases, which results in a blue shift in optical luminescence and energy

absorption. Here we demonstrate this effect using extended Hückel method to calculate fundamental band gap and optical absorption energy of a-Si samples with various dot sizes. As result, when the dot size was decreased from 2.2 to 1.0 nm, the absorption spectra peak shifted toward higher energy from 2.278 eV to 3.856 eV.

ABSTRACT

The spectral characteristics of land cover are basic references in

classifying satellite image for geophysics analysis. It can be obtained from the measurements using spectrometer and satellite image processing.

The aims of this study to investigate the spectral characteristics of land cover based on the results of measurement using Spectrometer Cropscan MSR 16R and Landsat satellite imagery. The area of study in this research is in Medan, (Deli Serdang, North Sumatera) Indonesia. The scope of this study is the basic survey from the measurements of spectral land cover which is covered several type of land such as a cultivated and managed terrestrial areas, natural and semi-natural, cultivated aquatic or regularly flooded areas, natural and semi-natural aquatic, artificial surfaces and associated areas, bare areas, artificial waterbodies and natural

waterbodies. The measurement and verification were conducted using a spectrometer provided their spectral characteristics and Landsat

imagery, respectively. The results of the spectral characteristics of land cover shows that each type of land cover have a unique characteristic.

The correlation of spectral land cover based on spectrometer Cropscan MSR 16R and Landsat satellite image are above 90 %. However, the land cover of artificial waterbodiese have a correlation under 40 %. That is because the measurement of spectrometer Cropscan MSR 16R and acquisition of Landsat satellite imagery has a time different.
