CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
A. Background
Mastering classroom management can make students have good perceptions of the teacher. Teachers role defined by Delceva (2014) in her journal is the teacher being the key for the teaching process, should be able to establish a positive school atmosphere. Such an atmosphere is described as purposeful, active, relaxed and motivational. In other words, the teacher is responsible for setting the expectation rate of student success. Problems with classroom management such as students do not pay attention in teaching and learning process, they are talking during the class, and seating arrangement could be avoided.
The role of the teacher in the classroom is very important. The successful teacher in educating students not only depends on the personality of the teacher and the teaching methods used. A teacher needs to master skills in managing class. These skills can be learned, practiced as well developed. Teaching practice and classroom management cannot be separated. The effectiveness of classroom management is characterized by discipline, and discipline is seen as an instruction training of the mind, and subjection to school rules and regulations Osakwe (2014)
Students’ perception is a psychological factor from the students itself who can influence their motivation in the teaching and learning process. Students’
perception is the response given by students to the observed object that will affect the student’s mindset. Student’s perceptions of an object of concern in teaching and learning process at school will provide different information and responses to the same object, because a person's perception is influenced by several factors depending on their respective values and needs.
Agustina (2013) in his thesis mention that there are some students showing negative perceptions about classroom management by the teacher, so that the behavior of students in the class are less appreciated by the teacher when learning is taking place. Students agree do not pay attention to the lesson when the teacher is delivering the material. Moreover, the lessons delivered by the teacher are not responded well by students, as a result students do not understand the material that has been delivered by the teacher. Teachers must not ignore learning conditions that are less than optimal. Teachers must care about class conditions to create a conducive atmosphere. Before presenting learning material, the teacher needs to check the condition of the classroom environment. This will greatly affect the learning process, especially in English subjects. Based on the fact above the writer will investigate student’s perceptions of teachers classroom management in English classes, because knowing students perception can make the teacher have reference to be better in teaching and learning, especially in English class. So, the teacher should know both the teaching technique is used and the classroom
management in order to make teaching and learning process more interesting and make good atmosphere in English class.
B. Problem Formulation

D. Clarification of Term
To understand the topic more easily, the key term of the study are classified as the following:
1) Perception
Perception is defined by Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English as “a) the way you think about something and your idea of what it is like; b) the way that you notice things with your senses of sight, hearing etc.; c) the natural ability to understand or notice things quickly.” In philosophy, psychology, and cognitive science, perception is the process of attaining awareness or understanding of sensory

2) Classroom Management
Evertson and Weinstein (2006) refer in their definition of classroom management to the actions teachers take to create a supportive environment for the academic and social emotional learning of students. They describe five types of actions. In order to attain a high quality of classroom management, teachers must (1) develop caring, supportive relationships with and among students and (2) organize and implement instruction in ways that optimize students’ access to learning. The importance of developing favorable teacher-student relationships is also expressed by Marzano et al. (2003).
