Individual assignment: Conclusion
There are some points about my conclusion for this group assignment. The first, we can understand what poetry is about. The first thing, Poetry is an aesthetic composition of the expression and feeling of words into a beautiful style and rhythm. In Poetry we can see how pretty the arrangement of word is. Poetry is the use of words that show the writer's feeling, thoughts, experience, and etc. Poetry can be an expression of feeling, such as sadness, love, and etc. It also could be describing a scene or tells story, even a lyrical arrangement of words.
The second thing is A poem is a piece of writing in which the words are chosen for their beauty and sound and are carefully arranged, often in short lines which rhyme. We should also know about the writer of poetry called poet; A poet is a person who creates poetry. Poets may describe themselves as such or be described as such by others. A poet may simply be a writer of poetry, or may perform their art to an audience. There are some elements in the poetry, such as diction, imaginary, the concrete word, language style, rhyme, and typography.
The second is about the poetry “The sick rose”. The speaker addresses a rose flower which is diseased, because some foreign agent (described as an invisible worm) has discovered the rose bed and is destroying the flower’s vitality. But of course, this leaves all our work ahead of us in working out what this rose, and this worm, are meant to represent.
This makes ‘The Sick Rose’ symbolic, because the rose, its bed, and the worm which destroys it are all clearly representative of something else, but Blake does not tell us what this something else is. This is what makes a poem like ‘The Sick Rose’, and a number of other Blake poems, so rewarding but also so mysterious: the imagery contains rich symbolism but it would probably be unwise to reduce such imagery to a simple ‘rose = love’ equation. Some words of analysis may therefore be helpful. So, I think the message of this poem is how deep love (rose) is destroyed by something comfortable but deadly (worm) that makes it "sick".
The third is about the poetry “I hear America Singing”. As a Representative of Joy: This poem is written to express the importance of every kind of work. Also, the poet praised the American working class and recognized their important role in American society. He spoke of carpenters, woodcutters, masons, boatmen, and mechanics. He explained how they enjoy their work and play an important role in the progress of the country. Even mothers, young wives, and girls expressed their joy as they too sang while doing their job. So, everyone contributes individually to making America a happy place with each of their skills that are not underestimated because they each have their own advantages. The message I take from this poem is that the author talks about the freedoms enjoyed by people in America who live happily with each of their jobs. Throughout the poem, everyone has their own song which means everyone has something they love like their job, it is important for their life according to the historical story the writer saw.
The last but not least is my perspective about these 2 poetries. These two poems are that they have very interesting themes but are very different in terms of content. “The Sick Rose”
uses a lot of metaphors so that readers get a lot of meaning and implied messages from the author's perspective. While from the poem “I hear América Singing” the author describes the lives of the people he sees in sufficient detail about their work, about their happiness, and about their freedom. If you pay attention, he put it in the form of poetry with a few and simple metaphors so that it is easy to remember and understand.
