Planning Publications or Web Pages? Identity Standards in Place
As communications become more varied, more complex, and more frequent in the 21st century, clarity and consistency in communication becomes increasingly more important. The guidelines were
developed to help to consistently convey the brand that is Alfred University to our key target
audiences. A unified visual presentation benefits all of us by establishing a clear and direct association between our many and varied components.
By adhering to these standards, all divisions, departments, and offices will help project an image of cohesiveness and excellence that plays an important role in attracting high-quality students and faculty. Maintaining this image conveys the sense of stature, history and quality for which the University is known.
The Visual Identity Standards are administered and periodically updated by the Visual Identity Standards Committee. They are responsible for overseeing the University's graphic identity system, maintaining visual standards, and approving use of any representative mark or symbol. This applies to all forms of communication in print, web, and video. Units within the University are permitted to use the Alfred University name and its marks and symbols, according to established guidelines, for purposes of recruitment, development, or general promotion of the institution.
The Visual Identity Standards Committee will consist of the Director of Communications, the Director of Publications/University Designer, the Director of Marketing and the Webmaster. The Director of Communications will serve as chair.

Auditions for '9/10', by Richard Willett
As part of a week-long community-based art and performance project entitled "LINKED, Our
Connection Over Time," intended to reflect on the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, a public reading of Richard Willett's play "9/10" will be presented on the evening of Saturday, Sept. 10.
Co-sponsored by Student Activities/Drawn to Diversity and the Theatre Department of the Division of Performing Arts/College of Liberal Arts, actors will be drawn from the AU student body and our community demonstrating the unity we all share as we reflect on this somber event that so strongly impacted our nation and the world.
Roles are available for 8 actors. Of particular interest, we are seeking a Latino actor, an African- American actor, a Japanese-American actor, and an actress of Middle Eastern descent (see attachment for character descriptions). Auditions, open to all, will be held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday evening (9/1), in the CD Smith III Theatre, Miller Performing Arts Center.
Developed from a play-writing workshop that Willet taught at Alfred in 2003 when America had just gone to war with Iraq, "9/10" interweaves four stories, each set in the World Trade Center on the night before the attack.
A reception and talk-back session with NYC director and AU alum Eliza Beckwith, who will co-direct with Professor Steve Crosby and his Directing I class, will be held after the free performance.

Private Information and E-mail Communication
E-mail is the official communication medium of Alfred University and e-mail users can assume a reasonable level of security and privacy in their e-mail communications. Users should understand that e-mail, by its nature, is not a highly secure form of communication.
E-mail is rarely encrypted when it is transmitted across the Internet or stored on servers.
Private/personal Information on servers can persist for years. Furthermore, e-mail can be readily forwarded from one user to another. As a result, University employees should:
Never communicate private information (such as credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, or private medical information) in an e-mail message, and employees should take great care when sending personal information such as grades or other information that is subject to FERPA regulation.
If you receive an e-mail that contains private information, please delete the message from all
